Impure Wedding Night (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 16
“Managing Director, I think it’d be better if you heard my decision around the time you clock out.”
“Are you saying that’s better for me, or that it’s better for Secretary Han?”
Strictly speaking, it was both.
After all, she intended to tell Lee Hyun that she wouldn’t go along with the fake dating.
So it would be better for Lee Hyun—and for herself—to delay that conversation as long as possible.
“Managing Director, for now, I’ve already clocked in, and this is work hours.”
Lee Hyun stared intently at Ye Rin, as if urging her to say more.
“So wouldn’t it be more appropriate to discuss work matters right now?”
At Ye Rin’s bold remark, Lee Hyun let out a soft chuckle, as if caught off guard.
“You’re right. Unfortunately, it is work hours now.”
“Yes.”
Right—since she insisted on only doing work at the office, who could argue with that?
Ye Rin gave herself an internal round of applause for her quick thinking.
Unaware that her words might soon trigger a huge ripple effect.
Lee Hyun began carefully reviewing the schedule Ye Rin had handed him earlier.
It seemed he’d finally decided to get some work done.
“I understand your opinion clearly, Secretary Han.”
Inside, Ye Rin cheered with joy.
The problem was, that joy lasted less than a second.
“After work hours, we’ll only talk about work-related things. Personal matters between us will wait until after clocking out. Right?”
“Uh… what?”
Lee Hyun smiled faintly, having already drawn his own conclusion.
“I really did hire an excellent secretary. Alright then, go ahead and start the schedule briefing.”
This time, it was Ye Rin who hesitated.
“Hold on a moment, Managing Director.”
Lee Hyun slowly lifted his head and looked up from the paper again.
“You mean we should talk after work hours?”
“You’re the one who suggested that.”
“When did I say that?”
“Just now—you said you only wanted to talk about work while at the office.”
That was only because…
She’d been too shy to immediately reject his fake dating proposal on the spot!
She desperately held back the urge to shout it out loud.
It seemed she’d once again been completely outmaneuvered by Lee Hyun today.
Ye Rin let out a short breath and quickly corrected the true meaning of her earlier words.
“I didn’t mean we should meet up separately after work.”
“But that’s how I heard it.”
“That’s not what I—”
“You have a lot of meetings today.”
Lee Hyun had clearly shifted the topic to work, showing he truly intended to stick to business matters only.
Since she couldn’t keep bringing up unrelated topics as his secretary, Ye Rin reluctantly began explaining the schedule.
“Your schedule ends after attending the Planning Team meeting at 5 p.m.”
“Secretary Han, you missed one item on the schedule.”
Missed?
She’d double-checked it multiple times before coming in.
Worried that something might have been added last minute, Ye Rin asked cautiously,
“If there’s a schedule I’m unaware of, please let me know, and I’ll update it right away.”
“It’s something you already know.”
‘He thinks I already know?’
She hadn’t deliberately left it out—if anything, she was worried Lee Hyun might think she had, and a cold sweat broke out on her back.

According to Secretary Choi Hyun Joon, Lee Hyun absolutely hated secretaries who did their jobs poorly.
Not wanting to be seen that way, Ye Rin quickly spoke up.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t intentionally leave it out of the update.”
Lee Hyun gave a teasing smile and lightly tapped his desk with his index finger.
“A very important dinner appointment is missing.”
Ye Rin tilted her head in confusion.
There hadn’t been any scheduled dinner meetings for Lee Hyun today.
“There was no dinner appointment scheduled for you today, Managing Director…”
“But there is now. Just now.”
“What?”
“Why are you pretending not to know? Didn’t we agree to have dinner together after work?”
“…”
Ye Rin gripped her planner tightly.
“Me?”
“Yeah.”
“When… I never said I’d have dinner. I only said I’d talk to you after work.”
Lee Hyun’s brows furrowed slightly.
“So you’ll talk to me, right? Just you and me.”
“Yes.”
“You said you didn’t want to at the office, so should we talk at home then?”
“No!”
“So then…”
Only now did Ye Rin understand Lee Hyun’s final implication.
Having dinner together would be the best way to have that conversation.
“Managing Director, I’m sorry, but I already have plans for dinner tonight.”
Lee Hyun’s eyebrows shot up slightly.
“Ah—I hope you understand that I’m absolutely not making this up to avoid having dinner with you.”
She’d already promised to meet Na Ri for dinner.
Na Ri had urgently demanded to see her tonight, driven crazy with curiosity about why Lee Hyun was searching for a woman who looked just like Ye Rin after that party.
“Who are you meeting?”
“A friend…”
“A man?”
“No! It’s a female friend.”
Hearing it was a woman, Lee Hyun’s expression softened even more than before.
“I see. Secretary Han needs a social life too. I can’t monopolize all your time.”
“So… you’re okay with it?”
“Sure.”
“Thank you.”
She wasn’t sure why she needed to thank Lee Hyun for respecting her personal time.
But she was still grateful he hadn’t stubbornly demanded she cancel her plans.
“Where are you meeting?”
“At the S Hotel restaurant…”
Without thinking, Ye Rin answered his question honestly before quickly clamping her lips shut.
“I see.”
‘He wouldn’t actually come there, would he? He’s too busy.’
As if to prove her thoughts wrong, Lee Hyun straightened up in his chair without a hint of hesitation.
Ye Rin had marked particularly important appointments—those Lee Hyun absolutely mustn’t forget—with an asterisk and added a memo on a sticky note.
Lee Hyun’s gaze fixed on that memo.
“You can go now, Secretary Han. Once I’m done reviewing this, I’ll have everything figured out.”
“Yes, Managing Director.”

After Ye Rin left, Lee Hyun couldn’t contain his laughter.
“Her handwriting really couldn’t be more like Secretary Han’s.”
He peeled off the sticky note and held it up close to his face.
Then he opened his desk drawer and pulled out a carefully kept memo.
It was the note left behind by the mysterious woman who’d disappeared that night.
“The handwriting is identical.”
Laughter kept bubbling out of him.
“It’s not just the handwriting.”
Even with his eyes closed, all he could think about lately was Ye Rin.
When he’d gone to meet the CEO of Cheto Brand to ask about that woman, Ye Rin’s reflection had appeared directly in the glass-walled conference room.
She kept shaking her head and crossing her arms in front of her chest in a big “X.”
She was probably signaling the CEO, Kim Na Ri, not to reveal any crucial information.
He’d barely managed to hold back his laughter at the sight.
He was curious just how long Ye Rin could keep hiding the fact that she was that woman.
That, too, was part of the intrigue.
He also wondered why she refused to reveal that she was the one he was looking for.
Up until now, Lee Hyun had only seen women who actively tried to get close to him.
That was precisely why Ye Rin—who stubbornly refused to bring up that night first—was so fascinating.
It was why he’d even proposed that ridiculous fake dating idea.
And, to be honest, he simply couldn’t forget that night.
To be precise—he couldn’t forget the woman who’d vanished, Ye Rin.
He wanted to keep her close and learn more about her.
He needed to figure out what those inexplicable feelings he’d felt for her truly were.
To keep her by his side regularly, he’d have to go through with something absurd like fake dating—whatever it took.
After all, the more personal ties he could create, the better.
With a faint smile, Lee Hyun carefully stored both the note left by the vanished woman and the sticky note Ye Rin had given him.
“This will be evidence soon enough.”
[This is the timeline separator]Even when Ye Rin came to report she was leaving for the day, Lee Hyun sent her off with a friendly smile.
Though it made her uneasy, she was glad for the chance to leave.
‘I still haven’t told the Managing Director I won’t do the fake dating thing.’
Assuming Lee Hyun had figured it out anyway, Ye Rin headed toward the S Hotel with light steps.
Thanks to Na Ri’s reservation, she was immediately led to a private room upon entering the restaurant.
“Hey, Han Ye Rin!”
“Na Ri!”
Na Ri spread her arms wide with delight as Ye Rin entered the room.
Ye Rin hugged her back before sitting down.
“I have so many questions I need to ask.”
“Let’s eat first.”
They ordered pasta and waited for it to arrive.
“Why on earth is Managing Director Cha I Hyun looking for a woman who looks just like you?”
“Sigh…”
Just thinking about it made her head throb again.
“Na Ri, listen without getting shocked.”
“So it’s something shocking. Okay, I’m mentally prepared.”
“Actually… I and our Managing Director…”
Ye Rin spilled everything that had happened that night.
She even explained how, unintentionally, her former boss got disciplined, causing her to cross paths again with Lee Hyun.
Na Ri sat there, mouth hanging open, completely speechless.
“You’re kidding me. So he’s telling you to find that woman?”

“Yeah.”
“But that woman is you!”
“Of course I can’t just say that.”
“Why not? Just tell him boldly!”
“I can’t.”
Ye Rin went on to explain in detail again why she couldn’t reveal the truth,
adding how Lee Hyun had warned that if that woman was found, he’d hold someone accountable for all damages caused by his recent work negligence.
“So that’s the situation?”
“Yeah.”
“That is tricky.”
Na Ri ran a hand through her hair, clearly empathizing with Ye Rin’s predicament.
“But I just thought of a great idea.”
“What is it?”
Na Ri leaned in close and whispered into Ye Rin’s ear.
“No way. Are you joking?”
“I’m serious.”
There wasn’t a trace of laughter on Na Ri’s face.
“What do you think? If you use the method I suggested, you wouldn’t even need to find that vanished woman, right?”
“No. How can you suggest something like that?”
“If you properly seduce the Managing Director yourself, the whole situation will change!”
“You mean make him forget about that woman by doing that?”
“Exactly.”
Ye Rin shook her head firmly, her expression resolute.
“I can’t do that.”
The more entangled she became with Lee Hyun, the more things spiraled in unpredictable directions.
That was precisely why she needed to minimize any connection with him.
“I really just want to run away right now.”
Thinking about her impossible situation, Ye Rin let out a deep sigh.
Though she was certain she hadn’t set any traps herself, she couldn’t shake the feeling that she’d somehow walked straight into one.

The woman snatched his phone and hung up. Looking at his phone wallpaper, she awkwardly changed the subject: “An ancient painting, eh? It looks pretty good, it’s just that the person in the painting looks a bit like me.”
When he heard this, he sarcastically mocked her for being so delusional, completely unaware that, the person in front of him was the reincarnation of Wen Ru, the famous prime minister of Yuan Shun whom he most admired…
