9 PM.

It was the exact time Sa Jun put Joo Won to sleep like clockwork, taking full charge of the evening childcare now that Tae Hee had started working late.

Luckily, their gentle son would fall sound asleep after just one book. A habit built over the years—or maybe the books were too advanced for a child, sounding like lullabies to him. Only Joo Won himself would ever know the truth.

The boy was breathing evenly in deep sleep, yet Sa Jun didn’t leave the room.

It was because of his son’s habit of clinging to Sa Jun’s finger like a lifeline until he fully drifted off. Sa Jun couldn’t take his eyes off him.

Even now, it still felt like a dream. That he and Min Tae Hee had a child. That this little boy was living proof they had become husband and wife, parents.

They say only someone who has been loved knows how to love—Sa Jun hadn’t been very affectionate with his son and had always been strict. He didn’t think he was a particularly good father, but he was doing his absolute best.

So that at the very least his son would never get hurt, never be left exposed to danger or indifference, so he could grow up safely and warmly inside the fence called family.

“Sleep well, Kang Joo Won.”

After turning off the light and stepping out, Sa Jun headed to the bedroom. He planned to lie in bed again tonight, waiting for his wife who was working late.

She said if he stayed awake waiting, she felt sorry and couldn’t focus on work. So inevitably, Sa Jun would pretend to sleep in bed, and his wife would always burrow into his arms.

He liked that, so even while doing other things, when it was time for her to come home, he would lie in bed pretending to sleep and wait.

But tonight she hadn’t sent a single message, so he had no choice but to lie there blankly waiting. Lying alone in bed unlike usual, the morning meeting came to mind. Then the way his wife had glared at him.

“Maybe I was a bit too harsh.”

Even while pregnant, his wife had studied so hard she got nosebleeds.
