Sa Jun headed to the only bakery in the neighborhood.

He knew Tae Hee liked to keep her breakfast simple—just coffee and bread.

Not knowing which ones were tasty, Sa Jun picked an assortment of cream-filled breads and went to the counter.

“I’ll take these.”

Watching the elderly couple pack the bread, Sa Jun subtly furrowed his brow.

“Don’t you have a shopping bag?”

Again, it was a black plastic bag.

Smiling, the elderly couple replied, “This is all we have,” and added a couple more breads that Sa Jun hadn’t chosen.

When Sa Jun tried to take them out, the couple stopped him.

“Take them. It’s a little service for bringing us such handsome business first thing in the morning.”

But service should be free, right? And free stuff made him uncomfortable.

Like Tae Hee, Sa Jun didn’t like things given for free.

Everywhere he’d been before never gave away products as “service.”

Polite manners and a warm smile were the service—and he always repaid that in kind.

Remembering this, Sa Jun pulled his wallet out from his back pocket again.
