Anessa Princess wiped away the tears flowing down her face with a handkerchief.
“How can something like this happen!”
With a face that gathered all the tragedies in the world, Princess Anessa leaned against the sofa. The Crown Prince, who was looking at her with a cold gaze, opened his mouth.
“There’s nothing we can do. I did my best too.”
Anessa urgently retorted, biting her lips.
“If I knew I would end up marrying like this, as if being sold…!”
The trial of the family inspection had the greatest impact on Anessa’s life. Matthias Mirmode, who directly confronted the emperor, revealed everything Anessa had done so far.
‘Matthias Mirmode, how dare you.’
It seemed that the emperor had taken into account everything, including the fact that the princess had been tormented by Sien while meddling with the Mirmode family and the fact that she had conducted a family inspection.
“As Emperor His Majesty has already pushed for a marriage between you and a prince from a foreign country, there is nothing that can be undone.”
“…Ha.”
The emperor knew what the prince from a foreign country, chosen as her match, looked like.
He was a chubby and ugly man with a protruding belly. Although he was the only heir, he was in a considerably inferior position externally.
It was, in fact, a decidedly unfavorable marriage for the sake of friendship between kingdoms.
Thinking about it, Anessa wiped her eyes with a handkerchief.
The Crown Prince looked at Anessa with a lascivious expression and said.
“It was an inevitable marriage. It could have been delayed, but it was bound to happen.”
“Brother!”
Anessa shouted as if she were vomiting blood, but the Crown Prince’s expression remained firm.
“There’s no way for me to help you, Anessa.”
“Yes, so, Brother, and even Melodia, and the Pope, none of you can help me, is that what you’re saying?”
It was when Anessa, who didn’t expect to suddenly be married off like this, sniffed with a runny nose and made a disgusted face.
Throughout, Melodia, who had been silent, smiled brightly as if approving. Even in the midst of this, Melodia’s appearance was extremely beautiful. Anessa stared at her to the point of absentmindedness, nibbling on her lips.
However, unlike Anessa, Melodia no longer gazed at her. Despite having built quite a bit of friendship with Anessa, she only stared at her like she was meeting her for the first time.
To put it bluntly, it seemed as if Melodia had lost interest in Anessa. But unexpectedly, she smiled gracefully and whispered while raising her teacup.
“Your Highness, the Crown Prince, it seems that Matthias Mirmode has finally taken action.”
Instead of looking at Anessa like the Crown Prince did, she gave him a drippingly sweet look.
“Yes, Melodia.”
She spoke softly, smiling.
“I heard you had a conversation with His Majesty. I’m curious about what kind of conversation went on.”
The Crown Prince, looking at the saint, Melodia, who left for the ‘Path of Light,’ bit his lips.
It was easy to guess what kind of conversation might have taken place. The emperor scolded him to the point of harshness for calling the princess and himself in.
Was that all?
He had also raged at the princess, grabbing her collar and telling her to go abroad.
“He said he would hand over the Mikel Mine to the Mirmode.”
He ground his teeth.
The Crown Prince had disliked the Mirmode family’s interference from the beginning.
Even this time, as Matthias Mirmode applied pressure, see how he crumbled. The imperial power was in a state of collapse.
At that moment, while sipping tea, Melodia whispered.
“Seeing you so enraged, it seems it’s not the only thing, right?”
“…Yeah.”
If it had been only that, it would have been understandable. However, the emperor extended another ultimatum.
He could no longer trust the Crown Prince and needed a new stimulus.
‘Although he still sees me as the successor, he said he could change it anytime.’
Perhaps due to biting his lips in anger, blood trickled down from his mouth. Melodia extended her smooth hand, wiping away the flowing blood from his mouth, and spoke.
“What is it, Your Highness?”
“Ha! What is it? He said he would call Duke Sebastian, that miserable half-penny, to the imperial capital. Does that make any sense?”
Calling Duke Sebastian, his stepbrother who guards the imperial capital. It seemed to indicate nothing but an intention to narrow the position of the Crown Prince himself.
‘The Crown Prince has no desire to strengthen his imperial power.’
It was when the Crown Prince realized this. Melodia, in her characteristic calm tone, opened her mouth.
“Oh, if Your Highness is referring to Duke Sebastian, you mean the stepbrother of Crown Prince, right?”
“That’s right!”
Up until then, while listening to their conversation, the princess, who had been squeezing her handkerchief, spoke mockingly.
“It seems like dividing the successorship. I may be sold off in marriage, but even my brother received a proper blow. To think that in a situation threatening the position of the next emperor, even to a Duke like Sebastian. How pitiful.”
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
