Naturally, Bennet, who had first created the narcotics, also knew about it. Her lower lip trembled faintly. To hide her shaking, she clenched and then released her lips.
“More evidence?”
“Yes. More evidence—proof that His Majesty was the first to produce the narcotics circulating in the market… something like that.”

Bennet’s mouth fell open.
How could she possibly know that? Only her father, Alberto, knew that truth.
Bennet could no longer deny that Elise knew her family’s darkest secrets.
How Elise had learned of it no longer mattered. Bennet’s head felt ready to burst from trying to figure out how to cover this up.
