Malcolm was startled.

“Your Highness, without even a word to us, the Sages, you’re ordering an immediate departure? We need time to prepare as well…”

Amber immediately voiced her objection. David, as if having anticipated her resistance, wore a gentle smile.

“Lady Sage Amber, you are being far too modest. I assume you’ve already finished your preparations—aren’t you the meticulous sort? Besides, why must you accompany us from the very beginning? Can knights’ marching speed possibly compare to that of mages? Surely, esteemed Sages like yourselves won’t fall behind just because you depart half a day earlier.”

His reasoning was flawless, so Amber fell silent.

Langji was thoroughly pleased with how David was taking charge of the situation. Moreover, he was overjoyed to learn that the weapon he’d thought lost forever was safe after all.

He’d nearly made a fool of himself in front of Prince Titris, but having narrowly avoided that embarrassment, Langji would gladly accept any request David made.

David spoke with unprecedented boldness. Langji’s nostrils flared as he struggled to suppress a joyful laugh.

“I’ll prepare something so grand it’ll make ‘grand’ sound pitiful.”
