Iris was coming—I knew it. So Elise was confident she wouldn’t be shaken even upon seeing her.

Yet, perhaps because their ill fate had dragged on so long, Elise’s heart wavered. Still, it didn’t show outwardly.

“You don’t look well, sister. Things must not be going your way.”

Since others were watching, Elise refrained from shoving Iris roughly and instead patted her back once or twice.

Courtiers who had been peering through the open door quickly dispersed. Regina swiftly shut the door. The moment it closed, Elise stepped far away from Iris.

“Sit down. We have much to catch up on.”

Iris behaved as if she owned every place she entered. It was a habit ingrained in her, for everyone always yielded the spotlight to her whenever she appeared.

“Regina, our guest is leaving. See her out.”

Elise had no reason to endure watching that spectacle any longer.

“Hey!”

At Elise’s dismissal, Iris raised both eyebrows and shouted.

With only Regina present, there was no need for pretense—was that her meaning?

‘I should’ve just told them not to close the door.’

Her fake smile made Elise want to vomit, but at least she could stop Iris from acting rudely.

“I have nothing I want to say to you, sister, and nothing to give you. I don’t know why you came all this way, but since you’re here, why not take your fiancé and leave?”
