It was an unusually dark night, one where even the moon refused to rise.

Clinging to that strange sense of normalcy as if it were their only lifeline, the Windsor family acted as much like their usual selves as possible—even pretending not to notice the undead shuffling about outside their townhouse at night.

‘Ugh, even construction on the ducal manor has come to a halt.’

The messengers, once bustling back and forth constantly, had begun arriving only sporadically. Yuricien knew full well that the Windsor duchy had fallen helplessly to the undead, yet it still stung every time she thought about it. Thus, even though she knew her recent insomnia would keep her from falling asleep easily, Yuricien resolutely lay down in bed.

‘At least lying down makes me feel somewhat refreshed, as if I’d actually slept.’

The man who should have been locked in prison was dangling from the window, knocking on the glass. He gestured toward the latch with his eyes, as if asking her to open it. Instinctively, Yuricien glanced toward Benjamin’s room across the hall. The curtains were drawn—perhaps he was bathing.
