Yuricien paid no attention whatsoever to Heathcliff’s face visible beyond her closed eyes. Everything was utterly different from what she had imagined while trying to steady her trembling heart.

She hadn’t harbored the naive notion that they would share their first kiss at the wedding, but she had at least expected an atmosphere thick with tender affection between them.

At the Crown Prince’s homecoming banquet—before the main guest had even arrived—they kissed as if testing their love, yet she never could have dreamed in her wildest imagination that the touch of his skin against hers would feel so repulsive.

“Ughk….”

She heard Heathcliff grinding his teeth. She could feel the firm tension building in the arm that held her tightly.

She didn’t understand why he was angry, yet she could clearly sense his chest swelling with fury. Nevertheless, Heathcliff didn’t let go of Yuricien. Instead, he pulled her even more desperately into his embrace.

Yuricien couldn’t comprehend it—if she felt no trace of love in his arms, then why did he suffer so agonizingly from kissing her?

“Oh my….”

“How incredibly affectionate they are.”

“There must have been some outrageous slander against her.”

The nobles who had been secretly watching the private scene on the terrace dispersed in small groups. A knight, noticing this belatedly, hurried over and carefully drew the half-open curtain shut. Only then did Heathcliff finally pull away.

“Ugh!”

He even shoved Yuricien aside as he did so.

Staggering, Yuricien hastily grabbed the railing. When she looked at Heathcliff, his face was flushed crimson with shame, and he was pressing the back of his hand against his own lips.

Still gripping the railing, Yuricien spoke.
