It was a dawn when one might consider it better to await the dawn rather than fall asleep.
The Duke of Windsor’s mansion was brightly lit throughout. The brightest spot was, of course, the office of the main householder, Uergen. In the room were Benjamin, clad in a red silk robe, and Yurishien, changed into casual clothes and wrapped in a dark green shawl.
“So… after all this thinking, there’s only one conclusion.”
Uergen, wearing a robe over his pajamas, wiped his tired face with a dry hand.
“Living corpses, in other words… undead have appeared.”
A heavy silence settled over the office at Uergen’s words. The faces of Michel, Kali, and Ivan, standing behind Benjamin with their arms crossed, were stiff. No one knew the severity of the situation better than they did, who were originally Elonians.
“……”
“……”
Elonia may have been the Emperor’s direct guard, but they were not typically an elite force defending the capital. Quite the opposite, actually.
Individuals who could quickly clear the battlefield to prevent an invasion into the capital.
That’s what the Elonians were. Therefore, the Elonians had been in far more battles than other knights.
Among those were the battles against demonic beasts and monsters. Naturally, they knew about the highest-ranked monsters, the undead.
They had fought them firsthand. But conversely, that also meant that civilians who had never been to the front lines didn’t know about them. Why should a civilian know about the top-ranked monsters, and why would they even want to?
“Is it really bad if the undead appear?”
Yurishien was no different. She only knew the name and a few characteristics; she did not precisely know why the undead were so dangerous.
“Michel.”
“Yes.”
Responding briefly to Benjamin’s call, Michel came next to the sofa where Benjamin was casually leaning.
“I will give you a brief explanation about the undead.”
Uergen, resting his forehead on his hand, nodded slightly. Yurishien sent her gaze to Michel, clutching her shawl. Michel seemed somewhat familiar, though it was an inappropriate time for that.
‘Where have I seen that perfect gait?’
Yurishien briefly shook her wandering mind and focused on Michel’s explanation.
“The undead are considered the highest-ranking among numerous monsters. The criteria for ranking monsters are still debated, but commonly, it is divided into three parts: first, intelligence; second, the potential for killing; third, the possibility of contagion. However, the undead meet only two of these criteria.”
“Because they lack intelligence?”
“Yes, you’re correct.”
At Yurishien’s question, Michel gave a brief smile and complimented her.
“The undead lack intelligence. So why are they ranked as the highest… that’s because they are artificial monsters.”
“……”
“Do you know the origins of the undead? It dates back to a very distant past, when Gypsies still existed in this Soljereon Empire. Do you happen to know what they worshipped?”
“Are you talking about Heavenism?”
Heavenism was the state religion of the barbarian nation, Heaven Kingdom, conquered by the Gypsies. The Gypsies, branded as heretics by the worship of Jushion, named the religion after the kingdom.
“Yes. They worship corpses. And from that, derive terrifying powers. Black magic, voodoo, necromancy… Their common point is that they all bring back departed souls or dream of immortality.”
It was a story that completely contradicted the teachings of the Jushion Order, which enjoyed a life bestowed by divine creation, following the laws of birth and death.
“And the ones sacrificed for these perverted desires are the undead.”
“You can’t be serious.”
Horror began to fill Yurishien’s face. Michel nodded with a troubled expression.
“It’s human experimentation. Or should I say murder? To call back a soul to a corpse or to aim for immortality… you need a dead person, not a living one.”
Yurishien clenched her shawl tightly and shut her mouth. The traces of slaughter left on Adel’s neck. Now she understood.
Undead have no intelligence, but their lethality is high, and they are contagious. This contagion typically refers to various plagues, monster diseases, and war diseases that arise from the appearance of monsters, but it’s slightly different in the case of the undead. A thorough investigation has yet to be conducted, but….
Mitchel looked at Benjamin as if seeking permission. Benjamin nodded for him to go ahead.
“In Eloniac, it’s believed that undead create more undead.”
“What do you mean?”
“If you come into contact with an undead, you too become undead. Whether bitten, scratched, or merely touched, the infection spreads through that part of the body. So in Eloniac, we refer to this as being ‘infected’ by the undead. Gradually dying like a spreading disease, until at some moment you become an undead, infecting and harming others…”
Hence, it is said that anywhere undead appear, everyone inevitably turns into undead. The only option is annihilation, making them both the easiest and the trickiest foes, he added.
My Arch-enemy Sealed My Memory and Said That He is My Husband
This is an incredibly captivating story that you absolutely shouldn’t miss! I’ll give a brief introduction here, and below you’ll find a detailed synopsis of the plot.
The female lead is a fierce and powerful demon king. The male lead is a once-in-a-millennium celestial lord, admired by the entire cultivation world.
They are equally matched, legendary rivals who have battled for centuries.
In the final duel, the female lead is gravely injured. The male lead saves her, seals her memories, and hides her true identity. He tells her that he is her fiancé. His entire life has been flawless—except for the one thing he never expected, never controlled, and never wanted to control: falling for his greatest enemy. She is his inner demon, his obsession.
When the female lead regains her memories, she is furious at his deception.
She makes his life a living hell.
And somehow, the male lead—possibly a total masochist—doesn’t mind at all. In fact, he’s happy she’s paying attention to him.
Yep, we’re back to my favorite trope: male lead suffering. If you love this kind of story, jump into the pit with me now!!!
Intro
Dong Xia lost her memory.
Her handsome and extremely powerful fiancé Li Qing comforted her: “It’s okay if you can’t remember. I’ll always be with you.”
Everyone thought Dong Xia’s ancestors must have burned incense to get such a perfect fiancé. He was the number one person in the immortal realm, yet he remained chaste and only loved her.
…
The day before marrying her fiancé, Dong Xia finally remembered everything.
She wasn’t suffering from memory loss at all.
Her arch-enemy had made her fake her death, destroyed her cultivation, replaced her memories, and pretended to be her deeply in love fiancé.
No wonder he said, “It’s okay if you can’t remember”!
Dong Xia laughed coldly as she pulled out her long knife: Li Qing, prepare to die 🙂
*
Li Qing, as the supreme being of the immortal realm, was the people’s shining beacon.
The only unknown stain in his life was his affection for Dong Xia, the ruler of the demon realm.
In the final battle of the war between immortals and demons, the sky collapsed and the earth shattered. The ruler of the demon realm was finally slain under the sword of the supreme being of the immortal realm, and everyone in the immortal realm applauded.
The cultivation world lost a ruler of the demon realm.
And in the back mountain of Li Qing’s cave dwelling, he secretly hid away a fiancée.
Notes:
1. The female lead is white on the outside, black on the inside, and the queen of flattery; the male lead repeatedly tests the edge of darkness, a VIP guest at the crematorium.
2. Fantasy cultivation world setting.
