Clipclop, clipclop, clipclop.
The sound of quickly walking along the marble floor sharply echoed through the highceilinged palace corridor. The long trailing dress, made from the finest silk, was being dragged on the floor and becoming frayed despite its high quality.
The steps, hasty enough to seem impatient, stopped before a firmly closed door. The knights guarding the door quickly prostrated themselves upon recognizing the lady.
“Her Majesty the Empress is here.”
“Her Majesty the Empress is here.”
The knights shouted in a tense voice. Empress Greta’s delicately madeup eyebrows twitched.
Her eyes, usually gentle and kind, turned momentarily fierce. Her round, gentle nose contorted like that of a beast.
“…….”
Only for a moment, Greta’s face resumed its calm expression as if nothing had happened. But the voice that came out from her small lips was as cold as it could be.
“You play tricks, Prince.”

The mocking laughter seemed as if she had Heathcliff in the palm of her hand, piercing through him.
“You have the knights inform me of my arrival to buy time to escape, don’t you?”
The knights, as if oblivious to Greta’s gaze, looked only at the door, ornately carved with ivy and laurel, as her mysterious eyes, a mix of green and blue, shone sharply below.
“To whom do you owe your loyalty, the Prince or me?”
“Em, Empress Your Majesty……”
“Answer me.”
A blizzard in the middle of a cold plain wouldn’t be as harsh as this. Despite their strength, enough to move a large log by themselves, the knights looked dumbfounded, as if they had encountered a giant bear alone.
Instead of the speechless knight, another knight hastily answered, bowing his head.
“Em, Empress Your Majesty. We are Your Majesty’s subjects.”
“In that case.”

Greta’s eyes widened even more, the oppressive air grew heavier, and the knights’ shoulders felt weighed down. It might have been an illusion, but the creasing and crunching of the armor indicated that it wasn’t just their imagination.
“We, we’ll open the door. And…… if His Highness the Prince is not inside, we’ll take responsibility and fetch him.”
“You’ll wait 10 minutes.”
“We, we will comply.”
A knight, who had bowed his head to the floor, stood up and opened the door without asking for Heathcliff’s opinion.
As expected, nobody was inside the room violently opened. Greta calmly surveyed Heathcliff’s bedroom. Muddy footprints marked the wideopen window frame. Her fine eyes narrowed.
“Go check the garden.”
“Yes!”
“Yes!”
The knights rushed out.

Greta headed towards the guest sofa in the masterless room. The maids following her tactfully began to brew her favorite tea.
It was when Greta had taken a sip of tea brewed to her taste.
“This…… Let go! You, children! Do you think you’ll be safe after doing this!”
From a distance, an embarrassing uproar arose. It was the sound of Heathcliff being dragged, roaring in anger.
“What are you doing! Punish these ignorant knights immediately!”
Heathcliff shouted, but nobody listened or followed him. One of Heathcliff’s shoes was pulled off, but no one bothered to retrieve it.
Heathcliff was thus dragged before Greta, who was calmly drinking tea in his room.
“Empress Your Majesty. We’ve brought His Highness the Prince.”
“You’ve worked hard. Sit in front of me.”
Greta said without even looking at Heathcliff. The knights walked over, sat Heathcliff on the sofa opposite Greta, and left the room. Staring blankly at his shoeless foot, the sound of the door closing heavily resonated.

“…….”
“…….”
In the silence, as if the world had stopped, only the sound of Greta elegantly sipping her tea was occasionally heard. From outside, the chirping of cheerful birds sounded annoying.
A moment later, Greta, who had emptied half of her tea, set the teacup down on the saucer and spoke.
“It seems that you haven’t reflected at all.”
“…….”
“Do you still not realize the seriousness of the situation, Prince?”
Greta asked, but Hiscliff did not answer. His stubbornly closed mouth even looked unpleasing.
“Do you realize what you’ve done, Prince?”
“…….”
“You went to the duchy without my permission, and that’s not all, you did drugs. Is that all? How could you with the Windsor princess…!”

For a moment, a blood vessel surged near Greta’s graceful eyes. Greta, who had been pretending to be calm all along, was suddenly clenching a wrinklefree hem. She gnashed her teeth.
“Trying to rape! Is this what a prince of a country should do!”
The low growl in her voice was still in shock.
Had the status of Windsor not fallen significantly, if it had been the usual Windsor, Hiscliff would have been imprisoned in the Windsor Duke’s dungeon, not the prince’s palace now. Greta had blocked it by mobilizing all the connections and bribery she had built up over the past three years since Ullegen disappeared.
‘I knew her love was extreme, but I didn’t expect her to reject even the central territory.’
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
