Edna had never experienced such a noisy turmoil in her life. However, Edna couldn’t say anything. It was all because of Yurisien, whom she had disliked as much as Adele.
‘Lies, this is…’
Even Edna herself couldn’t believe the reality of not being able to say a word. And this sensation was something she had forgotten for a very long time.
‘This can’t be…’
Edna’s thoughts denying reality went back to the time when Yurisien Agathe Windsor Lady and Edna Olley Calipso Young Lady first met.
Back then, Edna couldn’t utter a word to Yurisien. Despite having the same haughty personality, it was because, at the time, to converse with Yurisien, she had to seek permission and wait for her turn. And that was the job of Edna’s father, Lord Calipso, who considered her more precious than anything.
When they exchanged the first words of greeting, she felt ecstatic as if she were flying. When Yurisien invited Edna to a tea party she hosted for the first time, she became a pride of the Calipso family in various social events.
And when Yurisien called Edna ‘Edna’ and mentioned in front of others, ‘We are friends,’ Lord Calipso cried. Finally, they could escape from the tedious financial difficulties. He thought his daughter, well-raised and well-nurtured, became a blessing to the family.
‘Since then, our family has received various help from the Windsors.’
The mismanagement of the territory found stability thanks to personnel borrowed from Windsor, and when the tenants, who had been deceived by a cunning middle manager, caused trouble, they received protection from the Windsor knights and settled the issue through mediation.
In the royal palace, where Lord Calipso used to sit only on the lower seat, he could ascend to the middle seat all thanks to Edna, who had shone her face at various balls and tea parties.
At that time, Edna was very grateful to Yurisien, but Yurisien, who felt burdened by Edna being overly thankful, said this.
[I haven’t done anything. I just hung out with a friend.]It seemed to have started from that time.
Her feelings didn’t feel like gratitude and grace but more like a method of being sarcastic, saying there were various ways to show off.
As the family’s situation improved, what could only be enjoyed with Yurisien’s presence became possible for her alone. Edna changed. And that change accumulated, eventually leading to this unfortunate situation.
Now, Edna cried.
“Sor… Sorry.”
When she came to her senses, despair was right in front of her.
Yurisien, who seemed insignificant up close, was, in fact, quite remarkable. She was a benefactor of the family, another lady who raised Calipso, an aristocrat, and even the Calipso family, which suffered the biggest blow after the disappearance of Ulfregen.
Yet, Edna, who couldn’t maintain a friendly relationship with the Ulfregen who came to find him, tried to break even the somewhat existing relationship.
‘This shouldn’t have happened.’
Tears were the only thing that came out.
“Sorry, Yurisien. I… I did everything wrong.”
Edna hastily knelt down. Then, she gripped the iron bars tightly, wiped her hands wet with tears, and pleaded.
“So, please don’t interfere with our family… Huh? Don’t touch it. Please, even if it’s for the past kindness… Please…”
She sobbed, and her crying voice turned into a loud wail. Edna was afraid. Afraid of living a difficult life again, like in her childhood. Afraid of walking the path of a fallen noble family, which she had so completely ignored. Afraid of losing all this wealth and power, being reduced to ‘Lord Calipso? Oh, him?’ and facing disdain.
“Please, just once, let it end with me. Don’t interfere with our home, forgive us…”
Edna, with her head bowed deeply, sobbed quietly. She didn’t care whether other nobles passing by the townhouse noticed or spoke.
Perhaps she apologized so much that she couldn’t exhale without Yurisien listening. Is she thinking of such a strategy in the midst of this? Edna wouldn’t hesitate even if that were the case.
However, this was her downfall.
“Tsk, tsk, tsk, Lady Calipso really has no sense.”
“She’s young.”
The nobles who had expected to subtly pressure Yurisien by praising her instead passed by while sticking out their tongues. Even while wailing, with tears streaming down, even while blood rushed to her head and her head turned bright red, Edna heard that sound in her ears.
“Isn’t that sound strange?”
The voice that fell from above was cold. As if Edna knew that she was listening to the voices of others.
Edna, who was shedding thick tears, raised her head with a startle. Yurisien was looking down at her.
Without any warmth left in her expression.
“I didn’t touch Calipso as ‘I’ so far, based on our past friendship, but ‘you’ are meddling on your own. Edna, do you think others don’t know how you’ve been behaving towards me all this time?”
“W-What are you talking about…”
“And do you think I don’t know what the lords know?”
“Yurisien…”
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
