〈Hello, my B. Are you having a joyful day today? I am doing very well.〉
With a gentle smile at the corner of her mouth, she paused in her letterwriting to look out of the window.
Though she had much to say, she kept hesitating, wondering whether she should convey everything.
〈Speaking of which, I heard that a welcome palace party for the Crown Prince, who is recovering at the shrine, is soon to be held. Many people are coming to the shrine, are you one of them?〉
Her letter, filled with countless words held back, was steadily covering the stark white paper.
She vividly remembered what B had said in their last letter exchange.
[Every moment waiting for your letter is filled with anticipation, and I have not had an unhappy day.]He probably could not imagine how much comfort and solace that affectionate word had brought her.
〈Upon reflection, I felt the same way, B. Every moment waiting for your reply made my heart flutter, as though I alone were greeting an early spring.〉
As the space on the paper diminished, her sense of longing intensified.

〈If I may add a personal wish, I hope to hear from you before it gets too hot. I’ll keep this brief.〉
‘Yuri Hsien Windsor.’
Thank you for being my penpal, something I’ve never said before. The accidental arrival of a lost messenger pigeon allowing me to meet you has been one of the few precious blessings in my life. How can I express how you brought color back to my once grey life?
Words she dared not include in the letter. Fearing he might feel burdened, she swallowed the words as her white hand, slightly calloused at the knuckles, wrote the last letter.
“Hoo…….”
Holding the paper for the ink to dry, lightly blowing on it a few times, the previously damp letters quickly dried up. She carefully folded it, checking that the ink did not smudge.
“Coo, coo.”
The pigeon, waiting by the window, tilted its head as if asking if the reply was ready. Yuri Hsien smiled softly, considering that since the pigeon had pecked all the food from the floor, it might be hinting for more if she needed more time writing.
“Unfortunately, I wrote the letter early today. I’ll give you more food next time. So fly away quickly and deliver this letter to my friend B.”
Yuri Hsien gently scratched the pigeon’s head. The pigeon, as if understanding her words, closed its eyes to enjoy the touch and then stretched out one leg, equipped with a tiny bag to carry the letter.

Yuri Hsien rolled up the palmsized letter, divided into several sections, and slipped it into the messenger bag.
“You worked hard today.”
Coo, coo!
The pigeon cooed vigorously and flew off into the sky. Yuri Hsien watched the direction it vanished in with a warm smile, then closed the window.
At that moment, her face went cold, like a snuffed candle.
Now it was time to wake from her dream and face reality.
“That young count, he’s undoubtedly head over heels for me.”
“This is the first time in my life I’ve seen such a massive bouquet. You must take after me. Men are simply dropping dead! Truly befitting the adorable princess of the great Windsor.”
Joyful laughter, filled with elation, rang out. It belonged to stepmother Kendall Windsor and stepsister Lapine Windsor.
The actual adversary of Windsor House, the real princess, was standing in this worn and dull attic.

“…….”
Yuri Hsien silently clenched her fist.
About three years ago, stepmother Kendall became the mistress of Windsor House by exploiting Yuri Hsien’s bereaved father, Ulgen Windsor, whose judgment was clouded by grief. And she managed to do it in just one month. How she seduced the exceedingly embarrassing Ulgen is still a mystery.
‘There’s no other explanation but that he was brainwashed.’
But Uergen was not at the Duke of Windsor’s estate now. He had gone missing less than a month after marrying Kendalri, together with his carriage, in a place where a landslide had occurred.
“Hey, but not as much as you, sister! You’re going to marry ‘Hopgrand Changebaek,’ after all!”
“What! You think Changebaek would accept a marriage proposal because he likes Yuri Hsien. It’s all thanks to our great Windsor, he accepted it because of me. Your sister should be thankful to me.”
Kendalri’s voice, clearly meant to be heard, tore painfully at Yuri Hsien’s heart.
Hopgrand Changebaek. An old earl, approaching fifty, who has lost his wife once and even has two sons.
Of course, his name did not make him an appealing groom, considering all these things.
Especially not for Yuri Hsien, who was barely marriageable.

With lips clenched as though to tear, Yuri Hsien soon regained her composure.
No matter if they arranged a marriage on their own, it didn’t matter.
Yuri Hsien Windsor would find a way, as always.
“……I’m hungry.”
In such a situation, her honest body was still clamoring for food. Maybe it was to be expected. After all, she, who had always eaten well, had to eat worse than the kitchen maids overnight.
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
