Kisa lowered the fork she’d lifted to spear a piece of meat and swallowed hard.

She was anxious, fearing Gabriel might suddenly declare he was giving up on studying abroad.

In truth, the day after next following the engagement ceremony, worried about his condition, Kisa had enlisted Seyard’s cooperation to summon Gabriel to the banquet hall.

She’d used the excuse of asking for his advice—and perhaps a lesson—after hearing her violin performance.

“Ah, this? I fell a bit yesterday.”

How do you fall and end up like that?

She bit back the question as she watched him cover his swollen, crimson cheek with an excuse.

She’d spent the previous day pondering the matter thoroughly, eventually arriving at the same conclusion as Seyard.

This was a hardship Gabriel had to overcome on his own—something Kisa, as an outsider with whom he wasn’t particularly close, shouldn’t meddle in.

Instead, Kisa summoned him several more times afterward, quietly checking on his condition whenever she could.

Though she didn’t know how his conversation with the princess on the day of the engagement had ended, he clearly looked far more depressed than before.

In stark contrast to Kisa’s rapidly improving violin skills under an exceptional teacher, his face grew increasingly burdened with sorrow as the days passed.

Just as she began worrying he might really abandon his studies abroad and return to the princess, Gabriel suddenly opened with this oddly meaningful preface.

“Please speak, Gabriel.”

Unlike the tense Kisa, Seyard responded in his usual tone.
