Kisa first greeted the person who had addressed her, then shifted her gaze to the one standing beside them.

“And Lady Clifford. I had no idea both of you would be here today.”

Lady Welph, still wearing a smile that bordered on mockery, replied.

“Likewise. I never imagined I’d see Lady Bansfeldt in a place like this.”

Was it her imagination, or did the phrase “a place like this” carry unusual emphasis?

After all, these two—along with Melissa—were among the most devoted followers of the Princess within the tea party circle.

Though they had last met laughing and chatting merrily together, it was only natural they now harbored resentment toward Kisa.

To them, she was the traitor who had stolen away the man destined to become their beloved Princess’s fiancé.

This was becoming troublesome. Their sharply arched eyebrows made it clear they’d been holding onto this grievance for some time.

She glanced around discreetly, but there was no sign of Duke Darrion and his wife, the hosts of the recital.

Apparently, they were receiving guests in the banquet hall itself rather than at the mansion’s entrance.

“If only the Duke and Duchess were nearby—I could have used paying my respects as an excuse to slip away…”

But with only the household staff present to guide guests to the banquet hall, that was impossible.

There was no choice. Though the conversation hadn’t naturally concluded, she’d have to force her way through.
