Thanks to its strong mercenary escorts and its trade of various goods across the continent and islands, there was even a saying: “When Karan Trading Company arrives, the market celebrates a festival.”

Nelly, the head of Karan Trading Company, had upturned eyes and always wore her long hair tightly pulled up in a single bun, and her sharp gaze was so intense that despite her young age, she had never once been looked down upon anywhere she went.

Nelly, who never flinched even when dealing with kings of nations, found it difficult to hide her agitation as she inspected the returning wagon this time.

‘So it really was true?’

Inside several large tanks loaded onto the enormous wagon was seawater, each containing one specimen of various marine creatures. A guild member beside her spoke.

“Even though two months have already passed, the water hasn’t spoiled at all. Just in case, we brought back one specimen of each without selling them—see for yourself. They’re all alive, looking as fresh as if they’d just been caught. Especially this one—it’s so sensitive that even the slightest jostling would normally kill it outright, yet it’s perfectly fine despite all the traveling.”

Given their base in a coastal city, they had certainly considered seafood distribution before. But transporting live marine life inland within tanks filled with seawater was no easy task. Each sea creature required different survival conditions, so they couldn’t just be packed together haphazardly—and bringing only a few specimens would result in a loss.

Even if they commissioned a mage’s tower, it was doubtful they’d develop magic specifically to support seafood distribution. And even if they did, the constant sales commissions they’d demand every time goods sold would make it worse than not doing it at all.

Thus, despite knowing how dearly fresh fish sold in the continent’s interior, they’d had no choice but to bitterly abandon the venture.

‘How is this even possible?’

Nelly had tried everything she could think of to distribute seafood while keeping it fresh—but every attempt had failed. No matter how well the tanks were prepared, the water would begin to smell after just a few days, and the marine life would either rot or fall ill and die.

Yet in these tanks, there were only seawater—nothing else, no seaweed, nothing—and yet it remained as fresh as seawater freshly drawn from the ocean.

‘Guild Inferno…’

It had been back in May when the newly established guild first approached Nelly. The guildmaster of Inferno had proposed, “I can ensure your seafood arrives as fresh as the moment it was caught.”

At the time, she’d dismissed it as nonsense, but the guildmaster had insisted, “If you don’t believe me, just give it a try once. Should anything go wrong, we’ll take full responsibility.”
