Only then did Elise’s eyes slowly roll toward Lucas. Thrilled that he had finally elicited a reaction from her, Lucas rambled on gleefully.

“Your child, you say? The child’s real father? Do you really think you can mock me—and this Felur royal house—and walk away unscathed? Everyone is searching for that bastard, so he won’t be able to escape. Hunter, do you think he’ll try to protect his son? Or will he offer up his child and beg for his own life? Aren’t you curious?”

Tears streamed from Elise’s eyes. Lucas watched with great satisfaction as she writhed like a worm, crawling toward the iron bars.

Elise pressed her face against the bars and mumbled something. When Lucas pulled out the rag stuffed into her mouth, a hoarse, rasping voice echoed out.

Those words only enraged Lucas further. He reached out and seized Elise’s slender neck, squeezing with both hands as if to snap it.

Saliva dripped from the corner of Elise’s mouth. Just as her thrashing body began to lose movement and her eyes rolled back, Lucas released his grip.

Lucas coldly glared down at Elise as she coughed violently.

He had wanted to kill Elise himself for mocking him, but even his drunken, rage-clouded mind retained enough clarity to realize that doing so might make him bear the burden of her crimes.

Elise only looked up at him with tear-filled eyes and said nothing.
