Soon after, Anne twisted her face in anguish and began crying out desperately.

“Your Imperial Majesty! I starved Lorencia, beat her, and abused her. I sent a letter to Viscount Lorilors instructing him to humiliate Lorencia. I did it all—I did it! I did it! Our Ilina is absolutely innocent.”

Screaming out her confession, Anne immediately burst into tears. Watching Anne howl in defense of Ilina, Lorencia felt rage surge all the way to her eyes. Beneath that boiling anger, sorrow rose. The hatred, long suppressed under constant pain and sorrow, finally erupted.

“I never knew you were so deeply maternal. Truly, I had no idea.”

Lorencia clenched her teeth and continued speaking. Anne’s display of motherly love filled her with disgust.

“Protecting your child from their own crimes can never be called motherly love, Madam Anne.”

“You, born from that filthy whore—what do you know!”

Anne raised her voice, then instantly fell silent. Her lower jaw trembled violently. With a helpless expression, she began glancing nervously at Lorencia.
