“Oh… that.”

Hearing Teishar say he’d gone to fetch a scroll imbued with a healing spell, Susanna had thought perhaps her already frail body had tripped and fallen, leaving a bruise. But her left cheek was swollen bright red—an unmistakable mark left by someone’s slap.

“Who did this to your cheek, miss?”

“There was a reason… I was alone with Ilina for a while.”

“Who is Lady Ilina? I’ll report this to Her Highness Princess Charlotte—she won’t let this go unpunished.”

“Ilina is my half-sister.”

Susanna suppressed her pained expression and gently brushed Lorencia’s red hair into neat strands. Then she brought a soft, light beige dress—comfortable enough to wear even indoors—and helped her into it.

“Is this comfortable?”

“Yes, very comfortable.”

At the count’s estate, she’d only ever worn stiff, rough dresses that constantly made her skin itch. But ever since entering the imperial palace, she’d been given cute, comfortable dresses to wear.

Since this was the first time Lorencia had worn such an adorable outfit, she moved carefully to avoid wrinkling the dress. Yet, strangely, the dress resisted creasing no matter how she moved.

“Do you like it?”

“I like it very much.”

Standing before the large mirror in the room, Lorencia spun around twice in delight, her lips curling into an automatic smile.
