Stepping out through the door, Lorencia found that Ilina and the maid who had guided her to the reception room were gone; instead, another maid stood outside the door.

“Hello. My name is Meru, a maid who came with Her Highness Princess Charlotte from the Polloid Empire. Did you have a good conversation with Lady Ilina, Miss Lorencia?”

The maid who introduced herself fell silent upon seeing Lorencia’s swollen red cheek and the slightly torn dress. Her flustered expression was plainly visible on her face. Meru quickly tidied Lorencia’s dress and then let down a strand of hair from the left side to partially cover her cheek.

“Meru, could you please take me back to Princess Charlotte’s reception room?”

“Of course. I’ll guide you right back to Princess Charlotte’s reception room.”

As Lorencia followed Meru, she touched her left cheek. It stung and ached.

Suddenly, Teishar came to mind. She had a feeling he wouldn’t just stand by if he saw her swollen cheek. But she had no intention of accepting his kindness without caution.

Lorencia didn’t know exactly what “child of Goddess Ella” meant, but she suspected it might relate to the power channeled through her amethyst necklace—the ability to see the future or move objects at will.

‘I won’t ask Marquis Teishar about the child of Goddess Ella first. No, better not ask him at all.’

She couldn’t trust anyone blindly. She had learned firsthand that even the kindest smile could hide a dagger aimed at one’s skull. Thus, she wouldn’t rely on or ask favors from anyone.
