Lorencia looked at Luans with a pained expression. Did Luans even know? That every word he spoke was like a knife slicing into her body, carving away pieces of her, inflicting unbearable agony. A sharp pain pierced her chest.

“Lorencia. I love you. So… trust me and follow me.”

What hurt even more than Luans’s words was the memory of having loved him in the past. That was why tears streamed down her face, why her heart ached. Every time she saw him wield her with the excuse of love, she wept—weeping so bitterly it drove her mad with regret.

Luans probably had no idea now. He couldn’t know that when the priests of the Ella Temple branded her a witch and tortured her, the pain of Luans turning away from her—and worse, enjoying the sight of her suffering—hurt far more than her body being torn apart.

“Should I think about how to make you lose mobility? Lorencia. Shall I break your legs or arms? If I do it quickly, it won’t even hurt.”

Luans, smiling brightly as he pondered how best to hurt her while claiming to love her.

There was no demon quite like him.

“I don’t want to be hurt.”

“Here you go again. Weren’t you the one who said you’d help me? Didn’t I tell you it’s no good to keep going back and forth like this? Why do you insist on confusing people?”

Luans said that because he loved her, she must grant any request he made. And for Luans, “Lorencia” had become his universal excuse for everything.

If she refused his request, it was Lorencia’s fault. If she granted it but things still went wrong, that too was Lorencia’s fault. How had she never realized he was this kind of person?

“I’ll think for you since you clearly can’t, and explain it in a way you’ll understand. Got it?”

“Yes.”

“If we go to the tea party like this, you might end up humiliated in front of everyone. Then what would become of me, who threw down the white glove for your sake? Please, just use your head a little. Lorencia.”

Lorencia quietly nodded. Each of Luans’s words deliberately muddled the issue. She didn’t understand them at all, but she knew well enough that arguing back would be pointless.
