Pelena gestured to Saraph with a displeased expression.

The moment she saw Saraph approach, Pelena’s eyes instantly froze over with coldness. Before Saraph could even flinch, she was slapped across the face.

“You were given the name Saraph, so you should have behaved properly.”

Trembling, Saraph clutched her cheek with a shaking hand and began shedding tears. Pelena seized a handful of Saraph’s front hair.

“Since tears are already coming to your eyes, I suppose you must still be living comfortably enough.”

Though her voice sounded gentle, Pelena’s furious face delivered another ruthless slap.

“I’m sorry, Your Imperial Majesty Empress Dowager. Please spare my life.”

Groaning, Saraph fell to her knees and began begging Pelena with clasped hands.

Pelena calmly watched Saraph weep and plead, then suddenly burst into loud laughter.

She slowly ran her bright red tongue between her crimson lips. Saraph felt terror at the sight.

She gasped at the sight of Pelena’s forked tongue, unseen for a long time.

“I taught you that a High Priestess should never apologize.”

Pelena grabbed Saraph’s chin, forcing her to look up, and slowly traced the tip of her thumb along Saraph’s lips.

“Should I tear apart this mouth that dares to apologize?”

Saraph, unable to look away from Pelena gripping her chin, blinked again and again as tears spilled from the corners of her eyes.
