I Will Live for Your Death (20 Chapters Left to Complete) - Chapter 7
The crowd began to stir because of the woman who had suddenly stepped forward.
Ilyd had come out without any escort, accompanied only by Lynette. Unless she removed her hat, it would be difficult for anyone to recognize her as the Empress.
“Miss, this is dangerous.”
Lynette grabbed the sleeve of Ilyd, who was stepping forward. But Ilyd showed no intention of retreating. Her sharp eyes gleamed through the shadows cast by her hat.
“Is it not shameful that the Imperial Guard—bearers of the imperial honor—should stoop to such disgraceful behavior?”
At her sharp rebuke, the officer of the Imperial Guard released the shopkeeper’s wrist and staggered to his feet. His bleary, opportunistic gaze swept over Ilyd.
Truthfully, their disgraceful conduct suited Ilyd far better. She was inwardly grateful for the Imperial Guard’s arrogance, which so brazenly smeared Claudius’s reputation.
“Who the hell do you think you are, ordering us around? Then… how about you pour the drinks instead of this woman.”
As soon as he finished speaking, the surrounding officers burst into mocking laughter. Seeing this, Lynette tried to step forward, but Ilyd raised her hand to stop her.
“Don’t.”
Regardless of whether they laughed or not, Ilyd picked up a wine glass from the nearby table and promptly poured its contents over the Imperial Guard officer’s face.
“Yah! You—you…!”
“How’s that? Are you sober now? If you’re drunk, it’d be wiser to quietly go home.”
When someone took the lead, the crowd inevitably found courage. Seeing Ilyd’s actions, people began rising one by one to support her.
“Even if you’re the Imperial Guard, is it right to harass a woman and throw your weight around like this?”
“If you’re nobles, at least maintain some dignity!”
But the officers were already thoroughly drunk, and her words fell on deaf ears.
“How dare commoners talk back to us? Do you even know who we are?”
The officers’ minds were dominated by the belief that they were nobles while everyone else here were mere commoners. How dare these lowly peasants dare speak out against noble lords like them!
Yet times were changing. Noble titles could now be bought with money, and as more commoners entered skilled professions, the once seemingly unshakable class system was slowly beginning to crumble.
“Do you not even feel the weight of your family name and the honor you bear? What pitiful wretches you all are.”
Ilyd drove the point home. One officer, his face flushed crimson from drink, snorted and swung his hand toward her. Just as Ilyd squeezed her eyes shut, unable to dodge in time—
“Your manners are truly awful.”
When she opened her eyes, Rivel had seized the officer’s arm. The flustered officer struggled uselessly, but it was no match for Rivel’s strength.
“Who the hell are you?”
“A mercenary here for leisure.”
Rivel lifted his hood slightly with his free hand, revealing the insignia beneath—an unmistakably deliberate gesture meant to be recognized.
Ilyd silently bit the inside of her lip as she watched the man’s back shielding her. His much taller frame nearly concealed her entirely.
‘Now the real beginning.’
Hidden in the shadow cast by her hat, Ilyd drew a faint, subtle curve upon her lips.
The officer finally yanked his arm free, clutching it numbly as he glared at Rivel.
“Now that you northern bumpkins have come sightseeing to the capital, why don’t you behave yourselves quietly instead of stirring up trouble….”
“If noble lords from the capital come to a tavern, why don’t you quietly drink your wine instead of making a scene?”
Eddie approached Rivel’s side, grinning mischievously. His obviously slanted posture was tailor-made for provoking a fight.
Ruth, ever quiet and reserved, cautiously readied his weapon. As always, it was Lailo and Eddie’s specialty to draw attention with their sharp tongues.
“Why do flies keep buzzing around? Must be because your noble selves are so refined you carry portable toilets in your mouths?”
“What? You insolent northern peasants…!”
“Ugh, judging by how you snapped right back, you’re not drunk enough yet. Have another drink and then come at me—you’ll feel it less if you’re properly wasted.”
The tavern had now become a battlefield between the Licas Mercenary Company and the Imperial Guard.
While Eddie and Lailo stood at the front, actively provoking the officers, Rivel briefly turned to check on Ilyd’s condition.
“Are you all right?”
He reached toward Ilyd’s hat—not so much to check her complexion, but to see her face directly.
A familiar scent once again brushed past Rivel’s nose. He could have dismissed it, thinking many people might share a similar fragrance.
But even amid his mission, he wanted to confirm it. Could she possibly be that very person he had always longed for? If she truly was…
“…I’m fine. Thank you.”
Ilyd quickly turned her head and pressed her hat down firmly. Being exposed as the Empress here would cause all sorts of complications.
By now, Lynette had wrapped an arm around Ilyd’s shoulders and pulled her back. It was clear a major commotion was about to erupt.
“Miss, we must leave now. The situation is turning bad.”
“No.”
She merely shook her head and moved toward the edge of the tavern, refusing to step outside. Ilyd’s eyes blinked slowly.

As if she intended to comprehend every detail of what was about to unfold.
Rivel withdrew his outstretched arm. Though his resolve had wavered briefly, his mission was not yet over.
He turned back toward his squad members. They were still locked in confrontation with the Imperial Guard officers.
“You dogs bark loudly—no wonder my ears itch. Is this rabble harassing women and serving drinks really the Imperial Guard? That explains everything.”
“Ugh, what trash! A disgrace to the nation!”
Under the combined assault from Lailo and Eddie, the officers grew increasingly enraged, grabbing only at each other’s collars without launching any proper counterattack. It was only a matter of time before someone threw the first punch.
The tavern’s patrons had now become spectators, watching the standoff with a mix of curiosity and fear.
“Teach those mercenary scum a lesson!”
In the end, it was the Imperial Guard who attacked first. Lailo gave a slight shrug and glanced sideways at Rivel.
“Captain. Clearly they struck first. Do we really have to hold back?”
“Do as you please. But put your weapons away.”
“That’s a bit disappointing.”
Numerically, the Imperial Guard held a clear advantage. But half of them were completely incoherent from drink—hardly even a mouthful for the mercenaries.
Had the Imperial Guard possessed clear minds, they would have reconsidered before charging in.
It was obvious these weren’t ordinary fighters—their combat prowess was in another league entirely. Anyone foolish enough to provoke them should be prepared to lose even their bones!
But their judgment was utterly impaired—entirely due to alcohol.
One officer threw a punch at Rivel, who easily blocked it with one hand and laughed in disbelief.
“For all your bluster, you’re pathetic. Is this truly the best the Imperial Guard has to offer?”
It struck a nerve. The moment Rivel uttered those words, chaos truly erupted in the tavern.
The Imperial Guard lunged toward the mercenaries despite their unsteady steps. But their drunken movements paled in comparison to those of sober opponents.
Without drawing a single weapon, Rivel and his squad began systematically subduing every man who picked a fight with them.
With a great clatter, plates crashed to the floor and glasses overturned.
Patrons caught in the middle either flinched away in alarm or retreated to the corners to avoid being swept into the brawl.
Amid the chaos, the innkeeper of Clover Tavern calmly gathered the unbroken dishes as if this were an everyday occurrence.
The mercenaries moved with flawless efficiency, striking precisely at vital points. Everyone in the tavern began cheering them on—some even whistling and roaring with laughter.
The Imperial Guard’s reputation among commoners was already at rock bottom. These arrogant nobles who relied solely on their status were finally having their noses thoroughly rubbed in the dirt.
Clang!
The heated atmosphere instantly froze. People screamed and ducked low.
The officers had surely taken leave for the festival—meaning they were absolutely required to surrender all firearms.
Yet here was a gunshot. Ilyd subtly bent her waist and scanned her surroundings.
‘Oh no….’
One officer stood holding a pistol. The barrel pointed first at the ceiling, then trembled as it swung toward the mercenaries.
“You wretched scum! Kneel now if you value your lives!”
Ilyd clicked her tongue in irritation. He must have smuggled it out secretly—or brought his own personal firearm from home.
But ironically, it was the officer himself who should be kneeling with hands raised if he truly feared death. Carrying an unlicensed firearm warranted at least imprisonment—if someone were injured or killed, execution would be the minimum punishment.
“Lynette, stay right here. Check if anyone’s been hurt.”
“What? Miss!”
Before Lynette could stop her, Ilyd stood up. Spreading both hands wide to show she was unarmed, she walked toward the officer holding the gun.
“Lower your weapon. If any civilians are harmed here—”
“What do I care? Do you want to die first?”
The officer, still snarling, aimed the barrel directly at Ilyd.
The mercenaries paused momentarily. Provoking the armed man now would only endanger the tavern’s patrons further.
As they exchanged glances, formulating a new plan, Ilyd took slow, deliberate steps toward the armed officer.
“Don’t—don’t come closer! I’ll really shoot! I’ll kill you!”
The gun barrel locked onto Ilyd. Undeterred by his threats, her steps never faltered. Even the mercenaries were stunned by her boldness.
“Do you really want me dead?”
A mocking remark slipped from Ilyd’s lips.
She had noticed the officer’s hesitation. He was likely a recent recruit who’d just received his first firearm—probably brought it out to show off to others, trembling with nervous excitement.
But weapons weren’t for show. Especially not when wielded recklessly to assert dominance over others.
That made him all the less frightening.

Before long, Ilyd stood right before the gun.
She reached out and placed the barrel against her own forehead. A chorus of sharp gasps pierced her ears.
“Can you actually pull the trigger?”
One corner of Ilyd’s mouth lifted faintly. There were few things as cowardly and weak as those who casually played with others’ lives, boasting about who they’d kill or spare.
“D-do you think I can’t?”
“If you pull that trigger here, what happens next? People will scream, the patrol will rush in—oh, perhaps they’re already on their way?”
Her low, calm voice carried undeniable weight. The officer trembled violently, audibly swallowing hard. Ilyd pressed on, her tone laced with provocation.
“The patrol will see a blood-soaked floor, overturned tables, and you holding that gun. What happens then? Even drunk as you are, surely you can still grasp that much—right?”
The officer could only let out a trembling groan, unable to utter a word. Beneath the shadow of her hat, brilliant green eyes shimmered.
Then, astonishing words flowed from Ilyd’s lips.
“If you can truly bear all that… then kill me. Right here, right now.”

Dong Xia lost her memory.
Her handsome and extremely powerful fiancé Li Qing comforted her: “It’s okay if you can’t remember. I’ll always be with you.”
Everyone thought Dong Xia’s ancestors must have burned incense to get such a perfect fiancé. He was the number one person in the immortal realm, yet he remained chaste and only loved her.
…
The day before marrying her fiancé, Dong Xia finally remembered everything.
She wasn’t suffering from memory loss at all.
Her arch-enemy had made her fake her death, destroyed her cultivation, replaced her memories, and pretended to be her deeply in love fiancé.
No wonder he said, “It’s okay if you can’t remember”!
Dong Xia laughed coldly as she pulled out her long knife: Li Qing, prepare to die 🙂
*
Li Qing, as the supreme being of the immortal realm, was the people’s shining beacon.
The only unknown stain in his life was his affection for Dong Xia, the ruler of the demon realm.
In the final battle of the war between immortals and demons, the sky collapsed and the earth shattered. The ruler of the demon realm was finally slain under the sword of the supreme being of the immortal realm, and everyone in the immortal realm applauded.
The cultivation world lost a ruler of the demon realm.
And in the back mountain of Li Qing’s cave dwelling, he secretly hid away a fiancée.
