“If there’s a contract, they’ll go for the retired soldiers from the south. At least they can communicate. Those northerners draw weapons if something displeases them. Ignorant brutes.”

The murmuring slowly filled the tavern. Dozens of eyes turned towards the two men.

Rebel, who had just stopped by for reconnaissance, did not expect this much attention. He readjusted and pressed down his hood, signaling Eddie to leave. Just then, a resounding voice cut through the noise.

“Excuse me, gentlemen, but that’s a bit harsh.”

The atmosphere shifted instantly. Inebriated eyes turned towards the source of the boisterous voice.

The man sitting at the table was remarkably handsome, almost pretty enough to be mistaken for a woman.

His short brown hair framed his face, and his eyes, a sparkling light green, were curved in a manner that showed unyielding resolve.

“What era are you living in, talking about north and south? Is the blood of southerners red and northerners blue? Bringing such outdated prejudices to spoil the mood of the drink?”

“Who’s that pretty boy talking big?”

The argument seemed ready to escalate. Eddie looked between his leader, the pretty man at the other table, and the grumbling men.

Eddie looked nervous, unlike Rebel who seemed comfortably observing the commotion. If a brawl broke out, they planned to sneak out unnoticed.

“Everyone, quiet down!”

A loud bang on the counter silenced the tavern. All eyes turned to the owner of Clover Tavern. He pressed his deeply furrowed brow and turned towards the source of the commotion.

“All five of you, out, please.”

“Eh, boss? Why me!”
“Alan! You’re the main issue here, always starting trouble with that big mouth of yours!”

“That’s harsh. I contribute to a third of your daily sales, right?” Alan, the pretty-faced man, asked, seeking agreement from the female patrons of the tavern.

Most nodded in agreement. Many female customers indeed frequented the tavern just to catch a glimpse or exchange words with Alan.

But what good did that do? His tendency to get into verbal fights, triggered by any injustice, had also driven away a third of the clientele.

Eventually, the two mercenaries, Alan, and two others had no choice but to listen to the closing sound of the tavern door behind them.

The two drunkards grumbled as they left, and the remaining man, feeling awkward, scratched his head and apologized to the mercenaries.

“Uh… sorry about that. I just can’t stay quiet when I hear such things. If it’s not too much trouble, can I buy you a drink somewhere else?”

“No, we’re still working…” Eddie replied, glancing at his leader, Rebel. Rebel’s stern look made it clear there was no chance for a drink. Eddie suppressed a sigh and extended his hand towards the pretty-faced man.

“Maybe we’ll meet again some day. I’m Eddie. And you?”

“Alan.”

While shaking hands, Eddie instinctively assessed Alan’s physique. He indeed had unusually small hands for a man.

“Well, I have a curfew, being a decent person and all.”

A curfew-bound decent man. Eddie wanted to ask more, but Alan had already turned away, waving casually as he retreated.

Rebel turned towards the heart of the capital, likely where the palace stood.

He managed to control a surge of emotion, having raced towards this destination, awaiting this moment.

Muttering someone’s name, his voice dissipated into the breeze, heading towards the palace.

Rebel felt his heart begin to stir. His final destination and his most yearned-for person were there. Perhaps they would meet soon.

“Let’s head back.”

With that curt addition, he started walking. This mission had to be successful.

Meanwhile, Alan hurried his steps. He needed to be home before midnight. Entering an alley as a shortcut, Alan quickly pulled something from his hair.

“Phew, I thought I was going to die of heat.”

The once short hair now cascaded down in long brown locks. In his hand was a tangled wig.

Alan, or rather Alice, chuckled as she strode energetically down the alley, hurrying to avoid her father’s reprimand.

“The festival schedule has been shortened,” reported Lynette.

“Really?”

“It was supposed to last five days, but now it’s cut down to three. I suppose it’s due to the war preparations cutting the budget…”

Hearing this, Illyad concealed her troubled heart as she reviewed the newly arrived documents.

Cleadius relentlessly pushed forward, thirsting for blood and territory. Anyone who dared oppose or advise him was swiftly cast aside, just like a stone on the roadside.

‘Melpiram too… vanished so easily.’

Her grip tightened on the pen. Though a queen, Illyad now felt powerless.

Originally, the queen had the privilege to make three independent decisions. But Cleadius stripped her of this right while purging Melpiram.

Now, she could only manage the Queen’s Court and its people. Typically, there’s a queen, but Cleadius hadn’t officially appointed Selina.

The tension in Illyad’s hand reflected her inner turmoil, a mix of frustration and helplessness in the face of Cleadius’s overwhelming authority.
“I don’t want to be subordinate to her, is that what he’s thinking?”

Pushing aside her frustration, Illyad focused back on her work.

“If it’s because of the war, we’ll have to reduce the Queen’s Court budget as well.”

“Probably the budget for Selina personally is much more than that for the Queen’s Court.”

“Living modestly shouldn’t be a problem.”

“But I can’t accept the Queen being inferior to Selina.”

Ignoring Lynette’s grumbling, Illyad gathered a few documents and headed towards the Emperor’s Palace. It was a modest procession, with only Lynette, the housekeeper, accompanying her.

As if to overlook such a modest group, a large carriage loaded with cargo passed by Illyad. The carriage, making a loud noise, headed towards the Emperor’s Palace.

“Could those be tribute items for the Emperor?”

“…No.”

When Illyad and Lynette arrived at the Emperor’s Palace, the attendants were unloading elegantly wrapped gift boxes and several opulent trunks from the carriage.

The attendants quickly bowed their heads upon seeing the Queen.

“Your Majesty.”

“What are all these?”

“These are items ordered by the Emperor… for Miss Selina.”

“List them.”

Illyad’s firm command left the attendants looking at each other. Finally, she stepped forward and opened one of the trunks herself.

Inside the trunk was another box.

The box, made of velvet, contained jewelry including necklaces and earrings, each piece seemingly worth more than a month’s budget of the Queen’s Court. Other boxes were filled with luxury goods, custom clothes, and shoes.

While the Queen had planned to save budget due to war preparations, the Emperor was indulging in wasteful extravagance for his favored consort.

Lynette, who had observed the contents, cautiously looked at Illyad. At this point, she surely must be angry, but how should she intervene…

When yandere male lead believes she loves him — but she never did

“How dare you!”

“How dare you make me love you, only to cast me aside as nothing more than a friend?!?

“I will never accept that.”

“I will never let you return to him.”

“Even if I have to burn myself to ashes.”

“Even if I must shatter my purity, my dignity, my very soul.”

“I will never let you escape me!”

This was the first novel that introduced me to the matriarchal genre. I’ve read it three times already!

At first, the male lead despised the female lead. Later, he misunderstood that she liked him, so he condescendingly and reluctantly reciprocated her feelings.

Then, he suddenly discovered that she was kind to everyone in the same way, and there was already someone she cherished in her heart, and that person was not him.

The male lead couldn’t believe it, he became angry and crazy. He was determined to capture her body and heart by any means necessary.

Synopsis:

Want to see how a green tea bitch male lead falls in love with the female lead?

Want to see how he flirtatiously pursues the female lead?

Want to see how he gets slapped in the face repeatedly?

The male lead is a green tea bitch, a poisonous lotus, jealous, ruthless, unscrupulous, with a venomous heart, and he’s also a delusional maniac.

The female lead is righteous, positive energy-filled, kind, a holy mother.

Let’s see how two people with extreme personalities come together~
