“The sight of his pretty face getting ruined was quite satisfying. I still vividly remember his screams. The other prisoners were quite uproarious. Oh, did you not hear it from outside?”

It was an insult. A humiliation to the dead and an affront to the living. A vile tongue re-killing the deceased by bringing them into conversation.

Unable to bear it anymore, Linet stepped forward.

“You are in the presence of Her Highness. Mind your disrespectful words.”

“Disrespectful? I am merely stating facts. It has been revealed that Limeres Rowen Melpheus was raising an army to assassinate the emperor and had connections with the republicans.”

And there was Limeres’s confession. He admitted to all the crimes and the plot to assassinate Claudius. Eilidh didn’t believe those words.

Clearly, it was a confession coerced through torture. Tamil’s interrogation room was notorious for breaking down even the strongest men. Eilidh believed it was all based on fabricated evidence.

“I merely catch those who intend to harm His Majesty. Maybe it’s time Your Highness let go of the past and your grudges.”

“How dare you, Tamil.”

Tamil, who had been smugly facing the queen, froze at Eilidh’s stern words.

His once carefree smirk stiffened. Against his expectations, Eilidh wasn’t trembling in fear but instead confronted him fiercely.
“The Emperor should be informed that you have an overly audacious tongue.”

“My skills do not include wagging my tongue, Your Highness.”

“That’s good to hear. Keeping an unnecessary tongue in your mouth would only add weight to your hefty body, wouldn’t it? I’ll request the Emperor to cut off Tamil’s unnecessary tongue upon his return.”

Eilidh did not let any of Tamil’s remarks slide. Tamil shook off his arm as if trying to detach Eilidh’s green gaze from him. In reality, he did it to rid himself of the goosebumps on his arm. He was eager to leave this place.

“I wonder if the Emperor is aware of this side of Your Highness. I will take my leave now, having overstayed my welcome. I hope I never have to sit before Your Highness.”

“And I hope you never have to sit before me.”

If that ever happened, she would return the same cruelty in the most brutal way. Just like her brother suffered, or even worse. Eilidh barely swallowed these thoughts.

Tamil turned his back on the queen and walked away. He detested those green eyes. Just like Limeres Rowen Melpheus, those burning blue eyes that seemed to say they knew all about him. Those unsettling eyes that pierced through him.

It was the reason he had been especially harsh with Limeres. Was it because they shared the same bloodline? The queen, his sister, also shot him the same look.

Such an unlucky pair of siblings. He quickened his steps, shivering with anger.

**

Whenever Eilidh saw Tamil, even from a distance, she dreamt of meeting Limeres.

How wonderful it would be if it were her brother from peaceful days. The reliable brother who always stood by her side.

If only she could recall the times they rode horses together with his long silver hair tied back. Or the moments they sneaked out of salons after her social debut.

But whenever Eilidh opened her eyes in her dreams, she was always at the top of the prison tower’s staircase.

The dark, long staircase leading downward unfolded before her eyes. When she reached out, the stone wall felt roughly against her skin. The damp touch felt unfamiliar, despite knowing it was just a dream.

A man holding a lamp quietly warned her from below.

“Be careful of your step, Your Highness.”

He was the jailer of the underground prison. Someone who had once received help from Limeres and secretly admired him.

Meeting with traitors was prohibited, but with the jailer’s help, Eilidh managed to spend brief moments with Limeres. She followed the guard down, further and further.

Limeres Rowen Melpheus greatly resembled Eilidh. Even a stranger could instantly recognize them as siblings by their matching appearance.

His tall, lean figure with long, bright silver hair tied loosely behind him could easily be mistaken for Eilidh.

There were many rumors about him. A genius who entered the military academy as a top student but dropped out midway. A righteous rogue with a fiery temper. A rebel of the empire, going against the grain of the nobility.

If Eilidh was a quietly burning flame, Limeres was an explosive fire, rushing to its boiling point.

Their mother, the Countess, would often scold him to quell his fiery nature, but he never softened.

However, he wasn’t reckless enough to plot a coup and assassinate the emperor, especially when his sister was the queen. What fool would dare such an act?

Though Claudius and Limeres mutually distrusted and watched each other, it was true. Limeres’s intense dislike of Claudius after their first meeting might have been a premonition of the impending tragedy.

“We’re here.”

The journey through the gloomy corridors of memory ended at the cell door.
Startled by the jailer’s words, Eilidh quickly regained her focus. Following the light of torches and lamps, she walked down the long corridor. The underground level of the prison tower, where political prisoners and felons were held, lacked even the slightest hint of sunlight or a small flicker of light.

“……Brother.”

Limeres was slumped against the wall, more out of necessity to prevent falling rather than sitting. His once bright and beautiful silver hair was matted with dried blood, and his body was covered in bruises.

Among these, his severely swollen arms were particularly noticeable. Eilidh, with tears brimming in her eyes, turned to the guard.

“Why…”

“Both his arms are broken.”

The guard’s words ended somberly, heavy with sorrow. Eilidh did not even want to imagine what had happened.

Male lead is reincarnated to save his wife

I’ve also read this one twice already. The female lead is kinda soft and gets embarrassed easily—not really my type, but the plot is definitely worth reading. Hurry up and read it, y’all!

Intro

When Shen Yuan encountered Su Jin again in his previous life, she had already become the Prime Minister of the current dynasty. As for him, the former top young master of the capital, he had long since fallen into the abyss, becoming a singer on a pleasure boat.

After a song ended, he was redeemed and sent to the Su Residence.

Su Jin respected and cherished him, gave him a roof over his head, and bestowed him with warmth. Shen Yuan fell deeper and deeper, but before he could express his feelings, Su Jin passed away.

Shen Yuan died to follow her in death, but instead, he returned to when he was fifteen years old.

At that time, he was not yet engaged, and Su Jin was just a poor scholar.

Shen Yuan gritted his teeth, casting aside all his pride, and thought of ways to coax and entice her every day.

The colder and more indifferent Su Jin was towards him, the more proactive Shen Yuan became.

He was not afraid of being mocked by the world, only wanting to marry his Wife-master early, to hold her hand and never let go for a lifetime.

[Note: This story will not specifically point out the male lead’s reincarnation time point; it’s all in the details. Whenever you feel that the male lead is acting strangely, he has most likely been reincarnated.]
