In the end, the ceremony of the Emperor placing the crown on the Empress was not held.

Selina showed signs of disappointment throughout the coronation ceremony. She had hoped for another crown or at least a similar tiara to be brought, but it was a vain hope.

In her childhood, she had read short romance novels where a king would bestow the queen’s treasures to the one he loved. But reality was different from fiction.

For a moment, Selina’s gaze fell on Illyad. Despite the commotion, she remained calm and even smiled at Selina, who had just ascended to the position of Empress.

Having the woman openly adored by her husband enter their realm should have ignited anger, yet Illyad’s serene composure seemed almost miraculous.

‘Hypocrite.’

Selina thought she might be tolerating it now due to the public eye, but how long could she keep up the pretense of grace and dignity? Soon, she vowed to strip that mask off in front of everyone.

Resolving this, Selina stood up. Applause filled the hall.

Turning around, she saw Diove, her father, expressing exaggerated emotions. Ignoring him, she sat in the separate chair prepared for the Empress.

The celebration with bright fireworks, cheerful music, and endless applause, along with Claudius by her side, marked the completion of Selina’s small world.

‘Not yet, though.’

She desired to be closer to Claudius, to rise higher in their lofty world. What would it feel like to be at the top, where everyone looked up in envy? If she bore offspring, power would naturally flow to Selina. She eyed Illyad’s chair.

If she could sit there, then even the Empress’s position could be within reach.

Claudius was always holding Selina, day and night. If all went well, good news would come soon. Imagining a perfect future, Selina beamed a bright smile.

Illyad was surprisingly calm. She had thought watching the coronation would be frustrating, but instead, she felt at ease.

Was it because they were now strangers? After all, it was just a spectacle involving people she had no connection with. She had no reason to be upset or hurt. Had she harbored even the slightest sentiment, she might have felt pain or anger.

But the thought of future complications gave her a headache. Not just Selina’s attitude but managing the Empress’s budget…

“Empress.”

Interrupting her thoughts, Claudius called her.

“Yes, Your Majesty.”

“From today, the Empress’s court will belong to the Emperor’s court.”

Illyad’s eyebrows twitched. The Empress’s court was traditionally managed by the Empress, and now this long-standing rule was being changed.

“This is abrupt. The Empress’s court usually operates under the Empress after an initial period of separate education. Besides, its budget is quite different from the Emperor’s court…”

“Why bother with that? The Empress will live in the palace for more than just a day or two. And I’m taking care of this out of consideration so the Empress’s court doesn’t have to worry about the new Empress’s budget.”

A so-called ‘consideration’ was more like usurpation. Claudius seemed intent on stripping the Empress’s court of any power. Wary of revealing any inner turmoil, Illyad closed her eyes and took a deep breath.

“There’s a tradition of laws passed down for hundreds of years, Your Majesty.”

“Of course, our Empress loves laws and traditions.”

He approached Illyad closely, his voice sticky and unsettling.

“But I don’t.”
Illyad wanted to shake off this unpleasant whispering as soon as possible. Her temples throbbed from the tension.

“I will take my leave now.”

She had no interest in whether they had a good time or a passionate night. She needed to find a way to deal with this situation.

Throughout her return, Illyad barely managed to endure the tightening headache.

Why doesn’t this pain ever become familiar? She thought enduring and bearing it would be feasible, as it was a constant part of her life. The headache, ringing in her temples, was one of her chronic conditions.

She couldn’t remember when it started. Perhaps after she entered the palace.

Initially, she was dependent on headache pills, but eventually, she decided to endure the pain, fearing rumors that the Empress was ill and thus unable to conceive.

Now, she resisted showing weakness to them. She pretended as if nothing was wrong, maintaining her composure.

Noticing Illyad’s increasingly pale complexion, Linette approached her.

“Your Majesty, you look pale.”

“It’s fine. Just a bit of stress…”

Illyad staggered, trying to keep her balance. Linette, startled, caught her arm to support her.

“Let’s call a doctor. And some cold water!”

“No, that’s not necessary. I just need to rest in the shade.”

“Shall I call for a carriage?”

“Don’t make a fuss. I just need my medicine.”

Despite looking obviously unwell, Illyad stubbornly resisted. She always carried her headache medicine. Because of her chronic headaches, Linette had arranged for a prescription from the doctor to be kept by Illyad’s bedside.
