Rebel’s gaze followed them. He tried to recall a familiar silhouette and scent, sifting through fragments of his past.

“Where did she go?”

“Sir? Who are you looking for?”

“The woman who stood up to the Imperial Guard in the tavern.”

“…Everyone rushed in so suddenly. She seems to have already left.”

Lailo joined Rebel in searching, but they couldn’t find her. Rebel thought he was adept at picking out individuals in a crowd, but he was mistaken.

Closing his eyes, he conjured a memory – roses blooming under the summer sun. If one crushed their petals, that scent might emerge. The raw fragrance seemed almost tangible.

Longing in his blue eyes, Rebel felt a fierce desire. Edy, mistaking his gaze for concern, chimed in.

“That lady will be fine. But what she did was incredible. Standing up to a man with a gun like that – I’ve never seen anything like it.”

The defeated Imperial Guard officers, humbled by the mercenaries, sneaked glances at them, planning to slink away. Luce, hearing something, nudged Rebel.

“Luce. What’s up?”

“They’re coming.”

No sooner had Luce spoken than the sound of whistles filled the air. The tavern door burst open, and a group of people stormed in.

“Captain, this just got complicated.”

Rebel’s brow furrowed deeply at Lailo’s words. They should have left immediately after the disturbance, but now it was too late.

The loud group, responding to the report, was the patrol unit.

“Captain. Just one question.”

“Go ahead.”

“Was this part of the plan? Or part of the mission?”

“Neither.”
Yes, getting caught by the patrol was not part of Rebel’s plan.

The mission he received was to ‘create a suitable commotion involving the officers at the capital’s festival’. Was getting caught also part of the mission? Certainly not.

While being arrested, there were protests from the people, but since the mercenary group was also implicated, they naturally ended up being detained by the patrol. They were helplessly captured and now imprisoned behind iron bars, alongside the officers they had just been brawling with.

Lailo, hanging on the iron bars, whispered to a patrolman.

“Excuse me, everything else is fine, but I don’t want to be in the same space as those officer jerks. Can’t you move us somewhere else?”

“Hey, we don’t like it either. It’s uncomfortable even breathing the same air!”

“Fine. Let’s stop breathing together then. Come on, you scoundrels!”

“Would you keep it down!”

Unable to bear it anymore, a patrolman loudly banged on the bars to get their attention. Lailo and an officer glared at each other, exchanging offensive gestures.

Rebel leaned against the wall, eyes closed, offering no protest. Lailo, finding his silence frustrating, scurried over to sit beside him.

“Captain, please tell me this is all part of a grand plan for mission completion. It would be less embarrassing.”

“…Agreed.”

“See? Even Luce, who hardly ever speaks, agrees. Ask any mercenary – has anyone ever been caught like this while on a mission? I’d rather die!”

“Just don’t die.”

Rebel murmured quietly, still in a seated position. Lailo hit his forehead in frustration. What was the captain thinking? He’d been unusually silent and it was unsettling.

Lailo half-jokingly, half-resignedly kept babbling next to Rebel.

“What a disgrace we are, oh my. If Turgel knew, he’d collapse, only to rise again after three days.”

“And then?”

“Then he’d come after us with an axe, saying the Riccas Mercenary Group has been shamed.”

Despite the noisy chatter of the other members, Rebel remained silent. He turned his head to look at the officers outside.

The officers, under investigation, were loudly protesting to the patrolmen.

“Look at my face! We were just beaten unilaterally, you know? As if we’d start a fight… these brutes just started throwing punches.”

“That’s what you get for not knowing manners. How about learning from us? At least we avoided your bodies, considering it’s the precious military asset of the empire.”

“Exactly, our captain. Thoughtful as always.”

“…Agree.”

“Right, right! Why is it our fault? And you were ugly even before the fight.”

The officers’ faces crumpled even more. Already bruised and now insulted about their looks.

Lailo proudly turned Rebel’s chin towards the outside, displaying the captain’s handsome face as a triumphant move. Rebel’s face shone in Lailo’s hand, despite being partially hidden by the iron bars.

“Be honest, ask anyone passing by – who’s more handsome, our captain or you?”

“Lailo. Put your hand down.”

Rebel, the subject of comparison, muttered indifferently. The officers, already irritated, raised their voices in anger, questioning what was so handsome about him.
The patrolman, watching this childish fight, slammed his desk and issued a warning, but the officers paid no heed and continued to be stubborn.

“What a mess.”

“Huh? Allen? Why are you here……”

“Why else? I came to help.”

Allen waved his hand flirtatiously towards Eddie and the mercenary group through the iron bars. His expression was that of a man confident with a winning card up his sleeve.

Behind him, someone peeked out. It was the bartender who had been grabbed by the officers at the pub.

“Thank you all for your hard work. I’ve brought a witness with me.”

Male lead reborn without memories — but he still falls for her.

The person he finds displeasing in this life turns out to be his cherished wife-master in previous life…

Xie Zhi immediately took out his phone, slid through his contacts, and randomly selected the next marriage candidate.

The woman snatched his phone and hung up. Looking at his phone wallpaper, she awkwardly changed the subject: “An ancient painting, eh? It looks pretty good, it’s just that the person in the painting looks a bit like me.”

When he heard this, he sarcastically mocked her for being so delusional, completely unaware that, the person in front of him was the reincarnation of Wen Ru, the famous prime minister of Yuan Shun whom he most admired…

The female CEO who doesn’t want to get married with a divorce agreement in hand × The male archaeological researcher who will only get married if he’s sure he can get divorced
