“Where did these barking dogs come from? Just loitering around and bothering women? Is this the Imperial Guard’s level? Shameful!”

“Pathetic! A disgrace to the nation!”

Eddie and Lailo’s joint attack left the officers flustered, unable to counter properly. Now it was only a matter of time before someone started throwing punches.

The tavern’s patrons had become spectators, watching with a mix of curiosity and fear.

“Show those mercenaries their place!”

The first to attack was from the Imperial Guard side. Lailo shrugged nonchalantly and glanced at Rebel.

“Boss, they attacked first. We’re not at fault, right?”

“Do as you wish. But keep the weapons sheathed.”

“That’s a bit disappointing.”

Despite their numerical advantage, the Imperial Guard was largely incapacitated by alcohol, posing little challenge to the mercenaries.

Had they been sober, they might have reconsidered before attacking.

But their judgment was clouded by alcohol. One of the officers swung at Rebel, who easily blocked the punch with one hand and laughed in disbelief.

“Such bravado for such little skill. Is this really all the Imperial Guard can muster?”

Rebel’s piercing words ignited chaos in the tavern. The officers, though staggering, lunged at the mercenaries. However, their movements were sluggish compared to those with clear heads.

Rebel and the mercenaries began to subdue the attacking men without drawing any weapons.

Amidst the commotion, plates fell, and glasses overturned.

Caught in the middle, some patrons hastily retreated, while others moved to safer corners.

Through it all, the tavern’s owner calmly gathered the unbroken plates, as if such disturbances were routine.
The movements of the mercenaries were efficient and targeted precisely at vulnerable points. The gathered crowd in the tavern began to support the mercenaries unanimously, with some even whistling and bursting into laughter.

The Imperial Guard’s reputation among the common folk was already at rock bottom. Those who lived arrogantly, trusting only in their status and class. Now, their high and mighty attitudes were being flattened.

Bang!

The escalating atmosphere suddenly quietened. People screamed and ducked down.

The officers were likely on leave for the festival. This meant they should have surrendered any firearms.

But a gunshot? Eliade quickly surveyed the surroundings while slightly bending her waist.

‘Oh no…’

One of the officers stood holding a gun. The barrel was initially pointing upwards, then, with trembling hands, it turned towards the mercenaries.

“You filthy lot! Kneel now if you don’t want to die!”

Eliade clicked her tongue. The gun was surely smuggled out, or perhaps it was a personal firearm.

But, in reality, it was the officer who should be kneeling and raising his hands if he didn’t want to die. Carrying an unauthorized firearm meant at least military prison, and if it caused any harm, it could lead to execution.

“Lynett. Stay here and watch for anyone injured.”

“What? Lady!”

Before Lynett could stop her, Eliade stood up. She spread her hands, showing she was unarmed, and approached the gun-wielding officer.

“Put down the gun. If civilians get hurt here…”

“Do I care? Do you want to die first?”

The officer, huffing and puffing, aimed his gun at Eliade.

The mercenaries hesitated for a moment. Provoking the man with the gun could endanger everyone in the tavern.

As they exchanged glances to devise another plan, Eliade stepped closer to the officer.

“Oh, don’t come any closer! I’ll really shoot! I’ll kill you!”

The gun was now pointing at Eliade. Despite his threats, her steps did not falter. Even the mercenaries were stunned by her fearless advance.

“Do you want to see me dead?”

Her voice was laced with sarcasm.

She noticed the officer’s hesitation. He was probably new to having a gun and brought it to boast. But a weapon is not a toy, especially if brandished without cause.

Thus, she felt no fear.

Eliade was now right in front of the gun.

She reached out and pressed the barrel against her forehead. The crowd gasped.

“Can you pull the trigger?”

A faint smirk curled up on one side of her lips. There were no cowards as vile and weak as those who recklessly threatened others’ lives.

“You, you think I can’t shoot?”

“Imagine what happens if you pull the trigger here. People scream, the patrol rushes in. Oh, maybe they’re already on their way?”

Her voice was low but powerful. The officer, trembling violently, audibly swallowed. Eliade continued her provocative persuasion.

“The patrol will see the blood-soaked floor, the table, and you holding the gun. What will happen next? Even drunk, you should have the capacity to judge this situation, right?”

The officer, unable to utter a word, could only emit shaky whimpers. In the shadow under her hat, brilliant green eyes shone.

And then, astonishingly, Eliade said,

“If you can bear all that… then kill me. Right here, right now.”

Male lead is a Love-Obsessed Merman

When he discovers she has gone, he risks everything to pursue her on land, enduring agonizing pain to transform his tail into human legs…

One-line summary: Male lead chases female lead. The male lead’s love is a bit sick, an invincible love brain.

Synopsis

During a voyage at sea, Jiang Yang accidentally captures a merman.

Servant: I heard that mermen are fierce and brutal.

Jiang Yang looks at the merman obediently rubbing her palm like a puppy: “You call this fierce and brutal?”

Servant: I heard that mermen have no human nature.

Jiang Yang looks at the merman with wet puppy eyes, obsessively calling her ‘A Yang’ like a childish infant: “You call this having no human nature?”

With great difficulty, she releases the merman back into the sea and returns to shore.

Who would have thought that in less than half a month, the merman, who should have been freely wandering in the South China Sea, would shed his scales, endure the pain of losing his tail, transform into human legs, and come ashore to find her?

He kneels at her feet, rubbing her palm, with merman tears rolling down: “A Yang, don’t abandon me.”
