They should have rushed forward immediately to protect Ariel, yet everyone merely stared at the Duchess in disbelief, unable to accept that an arrow had been shot at her.

Ariel’s body wobbled and tilted sideways.

Yet she didn’t collapse. Without even glancing at the arrow stuck in her arm, she took another step forward. Only one word escaped her lips.

“Lucy.”

Her softly murmured voice was too faint for them to hear—yet somehow, everyone present heard it clearly.

The hem of her dress fluttered in the wind as it disappeared among the bushes.

Her retreating back grew smaller and smaller, still moving in search of her child. With every limping step, Ariel’s desperate cry for Lucy pierced their ears.

The sound drove a final nail into Ariel’s steps.

Another arrow sliced through the air and struck her in the back. Immediately, everyone surged forward, and the nobles’ urgent shouts for knights echoed around.

Knights who had grasped the situation from afar were now charging madly toward her, yet Ariel’s eyes remained fixed solely on the forest ahead.
