The banquet with the envoy delegation, held after a day of rest, was surprisingly ordinary.

The envoys and Hades exchanged casual conversation over the meal, and I merely had to sit beside him, smiling and nodding my head.

That was the case—until the dessert arrived: custard pudding topped with forest berry compote.

“The cuisine of the North is truly magnificent, as always.”

One of the envoys praised extravagantly.

“Even in the Empire, it’s difficult to find such exquisite forest berry compote.”

Another envoy chimed in agreement.

“To enjoy forest berries harvested in spring even now, in the middle of winter… Is there some special preservation method unique to the North?”

Hades leaned back lazily in his chair.

He showed no sign of disturbance at their thinly veiled criticism—that spring-harvested fruit was being served in winter.

“I’m not quite sure. Shall I call the chef and ask?”

“We couldn’t possibly disturb such a pleasant meal with such rudeness. I’ll request to learn this remarkable preservation technique later, heh heh.”

“Your Highness.”

When I tilted my head slightly toward Hades, the envoy who had persistently mentioned the forest berry compote twisted his face subtly.

“May I answer the Imperial gentleman’s question?”
