Merche weakly nodded instead of answering.

“I don’t know. Some insane monster barged in and blew some weird breath—or something—at you… damn it. That lunatic attacked you and left. That’s all I saw.”

That explanation alone made it hard to identify the monster.

When Merche asked Lud to describe its appearance, he furrowed his brows deeply and recounted everything he had witnessed.

An enormous creature, shaped like a snake.

“The thing” froze all thought the moment you laid eyes on it—it bore a pure white spot atop its head, stood unnaturally upright unlike any snake, and moved only in straight lines.

Wherever “it” passed, black liquid pooled in its wake.

Naturally, whether grass, flowers, or people—anything it crossed was instantly killed.

“Do you have even a guess?”

Merche couldn’t bring herself to utter the name that came to mind. But no matter how she thought about it, there was no other possibility.

“Why not? What’s so impossible about it?”
