People watched anxiously as someone jumped in right before their eyes, yet no one moved to help.

Lucena shouted toward Mela Chamber.

“Hey, my lady! Why isn’t anyone helping?”

“If we jump in now, we’ll only end up dying together.”

The school had repeatedly trained students on how to respond to accidents involving the pond. The instruction was always the same.

Never enter the pond yourself; even if someone falls in, don’t jump in—instead, call for help from those nearby.

“The corset I’m wearing now has heavy metal pieces attached, so if I jump into the water in this uniform, I’ll sink.”

Yet she couldn’t possibly unfasten it in front of the young men present, and even if she tried to take it off immediately, it would take too long to undress.

“What the hell is this all-girls’ school teaching its students and dressing them in!”

Lucena clenched her teeth and scanned her surroundings.

Mela Chamber had found a long wooden pole by the pond and was extending it steadily toward the water.

She was doing the only thing she could manage.

“Then at least ask some of those other boys for help…”

“No. If another man touches Lady Sarah while she’s only in her undergarments, her honor will be ruined. Even if she survives, she’d have to live as though she weren’t truly alive.”

Clearly, Lady Sarah had jumped in wearing only her chemise precisely because she wanted no one to save her.
