I Received The Holy Sword By Dawn Delivery (4 Chapters Left to Complete) - Chapter 11
‘You’ve been sparring again, haven’t you?’
I’d been told this damn military academy forbade fighting but allowed duels freely.
As long as it followed the formal structure of a duel, any weapon was permitted—and if you disliked someone, you could simply challenge them and crush them outright.
‘They said injuries were commonplace during these duels, and on bad days, people even lost their lives.’
And all of this was neatly wrapped up under the name of “honor.”
There truly was no crazier system.
Matian was universally acknowledged as the top student, yet due to his unusually gentle image, he often seemed hesitant or yielding.
Thus, many challengers, oblivious to their own standing, kept issuing him duels—and each time, Matian would secure just enough of a victory.
To Lucena, that seemed distasteful.
‘If he just beat them senseless once and for all, no one would dare challenge him again. Instead, he deliberately wins ambiguously, planting useless hope in his opponents.’
Moreover, during these duels, he always made sure to inflict a precise, disabling injury that drew blood.
And he never bothered to remove his bloodstained gloves.
‘Like a demon wearing an angel’s mask, reveling in bloodshed.’
She couldn’t tell what lay beneath his motives, but regardless, this behavior undeniably cast a strangely twisted atmosphere around him.
‘Still, given the setup—being the descendant of a hero—Matian is likely the male protagonist. He even looks like one: a walking statue of perfection. His personality’s a bit off, though.’
She was already worried about what would happen if someone like him made Giselle, a naive heroine candidate, suffer.
‘But then… what role am I supposed to play?’
Lucena wished she could be just a supporting side character cheering on the heroine.
Just then—
“Did you know that, Lucena?”
A handsome face suddenly drew close. Matian had leaned down slightly, lowering his eyes to match hers.
A fresh smile played at the corners of his lips.
“Wha—what?”
Ugh, jeez! Her heart pounded. Surely he hadn’t overheard her thoughts just now?
“What I mean is—you look even better now that you’ve changed. Especially the way you’re looking straight at me right now.”
What was that supposed to mean?
Did he mean, “Don’t you dare meet my eyes—lower them immediately”? Though inwardly bewildered, Lucena obediently averted her gaze.
It was pure survival instinct.
Puh—Matian let out a soft chuckle and straightened his back.
“Why look away when I just said it was nice? That’s a shame.”
He lowered his hand to where Lucena’s eyes were fixed and snapped his fingers sharply.
That gesture—reminiscent of training a pet—irked Lucena deeply, and she snapped her head back up.
“Haha, quite a spirited expression. I haven’t seen that before.”
“…….”
“And I just learned you’ve got the audacity to break school rules, too.”
Matian pulled a yellow notebook from his jacket pocket and scribbled something down.
Then he tore out a page and slapped it onto Lucena’s forehead with a crisp sound.
Ugh! Lucena rubbed her stinging forehead.
He’d pressed so hard the paper stuck like a Post-it note.
“Campus violence. Three demerit points.”
Despite having just handed out a penalty slip, his smile remained utterly gentle.
“Demerit points?”
She’d only been at this school for a few days! For Lucena, who had diligently followed rules even in her past life, this felt like a bolt from the blue.
Matian turned around and fairly affixed demerit slips to the fallen potatoes as well.
Lucena glanced sideways at his retreating back, lips twitching slightly.
‘Come to think of it, I’ve been running into Matian far too often lately.’
Their paths crossed way too frequently—anyone watching might assume she was following him.
‘He must definitely suspect me of stealing the Holy Sword.’
Granted, she did possess the Holy Sword, but calling her a thief felt unjust.
Seizing the moment, Lucena tried to slip away. Being suspected as a thief, labeled a “student of concern,” and now causing trouble—this was a terrible combination.
“Lucena Golden.”
But as if he had eyes in the back of his head, Matian caught her while still jotting something in his demerit notebook.
“You must’ve undergone some rather special training back home.”
“Huh? Uh… yeah?”
“Judging by how thoroughly these guys got beaten, they can barely move.”
Having just stuck the last demerit slip onto the final “potato,” Matian straightened up fully.
“I’m curious about your method—getting stronger so quickly in such a short time. Is there some special secret?”
His ever-smiling face looked deeply meaningful, as if he already knew she’d borrowed the Holy Sword’s power.
“I—I just put in some effort. Haha. Still not used to it, so my arms and legs are shaking a bit.”
Lucena forced an awkward laugh, hiding her fists behind her back.
Just then, Bolton, the student council secretary, approached with heavy footsteps.
His towering height, burly build, black eyepatch covering his left eye, and rugged appearance made him look more like a seasoned pirate than an 18-year-old student—and his personality was just as straightforward as his looks.
Though council members were usually too busy to cross paths often, Bolton always greeted Lucena as “the dunce” whenever they met.
“What’s the occasion, dunce?”
Bolton plucked the demerit slip off Lucena’s forehead and snickered.
“The guy who always ranked last but never got demerits—looks like you finally pulled something off.”
Grinning, Bolton poked Lucena’s cheek with his finger.
Then, assuming she was just a cute little cat who only knew how to throw “meow-meow punches,” he thrust his pirate-like face forward, urging her to hit him with her supposedly stone-hard fists.
“……Just give that back.”
Lucena snatched the demerit slip from Bolton and hurried off toward her next classroom.
Kahahaha—Bolton’s booming laughter echoed through the corridor.
“Next time, let’s duel, dunce!”
Bolton loudly issued a challenge, but Lucena kept walking straight ahead without a word.
Unless she wanted her limbs shattered, it was wise to avoid dueling—especially dueling with the student council, whose members were said to be handpicked elites.
[This is the timeline separator]Bolton shook the shoulder of Chad, the vice president, who was sprawled on the student council room sofa.
“Hey, Chad. Did you hear? The dunce utterly crushed Hans Paggari.”
“Hans? No way.”
“Cut the nonsense,” Chad yawned, rolling over to the other side.
“It’s true! She even got demerits from Matian. Right, Matian?”
“That’s correct.”
Matian nodded while reviewing the mountain of duel applications piled on his desk.
Chad, who’d been trying to enjoy his nap time to the fullest, suddenly opened his eyes wide.
“Hans? That Hans from the Jansen Viscount’s family—the big shot in the black market?”
“Yep.”
“Nah, there’s no way Luca could be that strong.”
Chad shrugged, using Lucena’s nickname casually.
“She’s changed since returning from her hometown. Stronger, and her eyes…”
Matian thought of Lucena.
The one who used to avoid meeting his eyes completely now stared straight at him after coming back from home—
her green eyes filled with raw, unfiltered fear.
Most people didn’t fear him like that. Usually, they just showed affection toward the kind and gentle student council president.
“What was so special about her eyes that you’re taking this so seriously?”
“It just feels… like she’s become an entirely different person.”
“Maybe you’re just too paranoid about the Holy Sword going missing, Matian? Unless her soul swapped, there’s no way Lucena changed this drastically.”
Chad waved his hand dismissively, yawning again.
Matian silently gazed out the window.
He spotted Lucena walking toward the west annex lecture hall along the brick path.
When a few cadets deliberately bumped into her shoulder as they passed, Lucena didn’t whimper like before—in fact, she chased after one of them, delivered an equally hard shoulder-check, and walked off confidently.
Matian flipped through the stack of exam papers on his desk.
These graded exams were meant to be distributed to students at the magic professor’s request.
His hand, shuffling through the papers, paused at the one bearing the name “Lucena Golden.”
Her score was perfect.
“Yeah… unless someone’s soul truly changes, it’s hard for a person to transform overnight.”
I’ll need to observe her a bit longer, Matian murmured, tapping the neat handwriting on her exam paper.
[This is the timeline separator]‘At this rate, could I actually end up topping the class this time?’
While solving her magical equations exam, Lucena tilted her head in puzzlement.
Problems involving factorization and quadratic functions—standard fare for any Korean test-taker—turned out to be surprisingly simple.
She was seriously wondering if the title of this world she’d reincarnated into might be something like “The Hidden-Strength School Outcast Takes Over the Academy.”
Occasionally, unfamiliar concepts would suddenly surface in her mind—likely knowledge originally possessed by this body’s true Lucena.
‘This body seems to hold quite a lot of accumulated knowledge.’
It was the same when opening textbooks for her major courses. Content that should’ve felt foreign came across as deeply familiar.
Especially in foundational medicine and holy studies—she seemed to know everything.
‘Then why was I always dead last before?’
After finishing her magical equations exam, Lucena returned to her dormitory, pondering her past.
She dropped her bag of stationery onto the desk and collapsed onto her bed—her eyelids instantly grew heavy.
‘Why am I so exhausted?’
She had no time to ponder the secrets hidden within this body.
Between exams and the physical demands of military academy classes, by afternoon she barely had the strength to lift a spoon.
But what drained her most wasn’t class—it was this damn Holy Sword.
