Bolton immediately walked over and locked the open laboratory door.
“What are you doing, Bolton? We need to ventilate this place right now!”
When Rukna questioned his actions and tried to unlock the door again, he shook his head.
“No. It would be a disaster if this smoke leaked out. The residual components could affect the other students tomorrow. It’s better for the student council to take responsibility and inhale it all.”
Hm? Is he going to use his classmates as human air purifiers?
As Rukna frowned, Bolton burst into laughter.
“Don’t worry too much, dummy. Inhaling this smoke will just make you more honest than usual, it’s not harmful to the body at all. I guarantee it.”
“How do you know that?”
“I’ve inhaled a lot of it myself.”
Bolton shrugged his shoulders, personally demonstrating that there were no ill effects from inhaling it.
“Really?”
“If you’re curious, try taking off your mask too. I’ll do a case study on you.”
“No thanks.”
Rukna pressed the mask that was tightly attached to her face even more perfectly.
At that moment, Aaron staggered over to Bolton.
Aaron reached up and grabbed Bolton by the collar, shaking him.
“Hey, you damned alchemist. What did you make me drink?”
“Ugh. I’m dizzy, Aaron!”
“Because you’re a water muscle, of course you’re dizzy. So become the best alchemist, Bolton.”
Aaron suddenly cheered Bolton on. Was that guy always so kind? I thought he was a sensitive grouch who only cared about money.
Rukna reflected on her past self who had misunderstood Aaron.
Bolton must have felt the same way, as he covered his mouth with his large hand, feeling overwhelmed with emotion.
“I didn’t know you genuinely supported me, Aaron. I’m sorry for misunderstanding you all this time. I will definitely become the best alchemist.”
Bolton clenched his fist like a protagonist in a fairy tale.
And he was about to shout that he would definitely seize the title of the best alchemist and become Aaron’s proud colleague…
“Synthesize the golden elixir and make me rich, you bear cub bastard!”
Aaron grabbed Bolton’s collar and shook him, spitting out rough words.
The sparkle of friendship and hope in Bolton’s eyes quickly turned dark, tainted by reality.
“Was that your purpose in supporting me?”
“Turn this into a golden hammer right now, you conman alchemist!”
“Conman? Who are you calling a conman! Just sell your land and buy a golden hammer, you bastard. That would be faster.”
“Fine. I’ll obviously become a corrupt politician and buy a golden hammer.”
“Yeah, I’m so proud of your dream.”
“I’ll become a bribe-taking judge and seize money and power!”
Aaron shouted like a drunk old man and plopped down on the floor.
Bolton threw out words like “I’ll support your dream” while shaking his head.
Meanwhile, Matian was sitting upright at a desk. He quickly jotted something down on a wad of paper he pulled from his chest.
“Is Matian serious about studying?”
“Hey, dummy. He’s not studying, he’s writing demerit tickets.”
As Bolton said, Matian was writing down the various demerits of the student council members he had been lenient on. Most of them were Chad’s.
“Look at that, Luca. Matian hates me so much.”
Chad tightly hugged Rukna’s neck and giggled.
Eek, Rukna flinched and removed Chad’s arm, turning around.
Staggering like a drunk person, Chad regained his balance and pointed to one of the lab chairs.
A chair covered with experimental gauze cloth. Chad had decorated it in his own way.
“That’s the best seat.”
Chad grabbed Rukna’s wrist and walked towards the chair.
Then he plopped down in the seat and looked up at Rukna.
“Luca, who is the greatest person in this world?”
He asked, still holding Rukna’s wrist. When there was no answer from Rukna, he repeated the same question.
“Luca, Luca. I said, who is the strongest person in this world?”
Was this how the magic mirror in Snow White felt? Rukna was about to casually say Chad’s name, but closed her lips.
If she had inhaled this smoke too, what answer would she have given?
‘I would have said Matian Wiegratz.’
Just like that mirror who answered in front of the queen that Snow White was the most beautiful person in the world.
‘Come to think of it, the mirror was really stupid. If it had given the answer the other person wanted, everyone would have had a happy ending.’
And Rukna decided to become a wise mirror.
If she casually said Chad’s name, he would let go of the wrist he was holding.
“It’s me.”
But as soon as she opened her mouth, a completely different answer from her thoughts came out. What the heck. Is this really what my mouth spat out? Not Matian, but why me?
“What did you just say, Luca?”
“I said it’s me, you idiot. The strongest person in the world.”
What the? Why is my mouth doing this? As the startled Rukna tried to cover her mouth,
the mask that should have been covering her nose had slipped down to her lips.
‘Since when…!’
Rukna hurriedly pulled up the mask to cover her nose in panic.
Come to think of it, she remembered her past life when a plague had spread.
At that time, everyone had to wear a mask, but whenever she felt stuffy, she would pull the mask down below her nose.
That bad habit from then must have unconsciously come out. This is why set rules should be followed well, Rukna regretted belatedly.
“Luca is really unpredictable.”
Hearing the voice, she came to her senses and saw Chad glaring at her coldly.
No, that wasn’t the answer I intended. I’ve never once thought of myself as strong, so why did that kind of answer come out!
“I hate being second. So you need to disappear.”
With those words, a circular magic circle appeared under Rukna’s feet. Ahhh! As Rukna waved her hands to express her grievances,
Smack. Chad’s upper body was pushed back, slamming into the chair backrest.
Matian had stuck a completed demerit ticket to Chad’s forehead.
“Matian Wiegratz, what do you think you’re doing?”
Chad raised his upper body and screamed, but another demerit sticker stuck to his forehead, causing him to slam back into the backrest again.
“If I stick all of these on, you’ll be expelled, Chad. Before that, you might not be able to get up from that chair you like so much.”
“You ill-fated bastard, do you know who I am to be acting up!”
Angry Chad recited the typical lines of a jerk as he sprang up from the chair.
Is he going to reveal his identity? Rukna immediately turned her head to wait for the next line.
It was a question she hadn’t dared to ask for fear of getting too deeply involved in a bad incident, but it would be really nice to get an answer here.
But Matian ignored Chad’s words and swiftly left, so Rukna’s wish was not granted.
He didn’t seem curious about Chad’s identity at all, as he was busy attaching demerit stickers to Bolton and Aaron’s backs with an indifferent expression.
When Matian reached in front of Rukna, she held her breath. How long had it been since she had looked into those blue eyes for a long time? It felt really nice and awkward at the same time.
Matian looked straight into Rukna’s eyes and tilted his head to the side.
He tore off a sheet of notebook paper as if he had thought of something and wrote a few letters on it.
At that moment, an angry Chad ran up to Matian and grabbed him by the collar.
“Don’t act up recklessly. You’re all in the palm of my hand anyway.”
“Aren’t I a bit too big to put in your small palm, Chad?”
Matian grinned and stuck another demerit sticker on his forehead that he hadn’t been able to attach. It was a sincere smile.
“Do you really want to die?”
Mana flowed out of angry Chad’s body.
It drew a circular magic circle on the floor and began to create a high-level fire-type spell.
“Yeah. I wanted to die but couldn’t.”
A blue aura also flowed out of Matian’s body and rose like flames.
“How long do you think you can keep saying such carefree things?”
“Hmm, even after you die, Chad?”
The face that smiled kindly while saying that was annoyingly detestable.
“Hey, come to your senses! What if the president and vice president fight!”
As the situation escalated to the brink, Bolton stammered and tried to stop the two.
“I bet 2 rubes on Matian. Ten times call?”
Meanwhile, Aaron didn’t even try to stop them and started a gambling table.
As Chad’s anger grew even greater, Matian turned his head sharply toward Rukna.
“You have to go.”
“What?”
“Go before you get more demerits. This is something the student council has to solve.”
Matian stuck the paper he had just written on Rukna’s forehead, then jerked his chin toward the exit.
Rukna nodded and quickly left the lab.
It didn’t take long to pass through the dark corridor and come out of Golden College.
A few seconds later.
Bolton’s lab flashed with blue and red light, then with a bang! There was a huge explosion.
Fortunately, the building did not collapse, but the windows on the first floor shattered and the walls were left with scorch marks.
At the commotion, the students in the dormitories came running out and gathered around the college.
‘Is everyone okay?’
Judging by the four intact shadows beyond the hazy smoke, everyone seemed to be fine.
Fortunately. But the fight didn’t seem to be over yet, as the two large shadows were grabbing each other by the collar.
“What is going on, Lady Rukna!”
Zvai, who came out in his pajamas, greeted Rukna.
The rest of the club members automatically lined up behind him.
Now that I see it, this damn club even coordinated their pajamas with the same ruby-colored mark.
“Right now, there seems to be a fight between the executives. They say it’s the president and vice president… There are no students to stop those two, so the professors will probably intervene.”
Zvai proudly listed the information he had gathered in a short time.
“I see.”
“But Lady Rukna, why do you have a paper with the student council president’s name stuck on your forehead?”
Zvai narrowed his brow and stared intently at the paper stuck on her forehead.
What did I have stuck on me?
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
