“Why are you laughing?”

“Just… the current situation… Of course, it sounds ridiculous, but it seems like you’re jealous of yourself, Captain.”

It was just a shot in the dark. Logan Redford’s arrogance, as he sat on the sofa with one leg crossed over the other and a wineglass in hand, was infuriating—and without that explanation, his stubbornness made no sense at all.

Naturally, Logan scoffed and denied it.

“Who’d be jealous over something as trivial as an illusion?”

“Exactly. It’s nothing but a baseless, delusional dream.”

Of course, someone as magnificent as Logan Redford wouldn’t stoop so low. Sydney forced an awkward smile and tilted the glass, taking a sip.

Holding the wine in her mouth for a moment before letting it slide down her throat, she felt her body grow languid from the alcohol.

She set the glass down and rested her arm on the sofa’s armrest, then asked Logan, who was refilling her glass,

“Do you happen to remember a soldier named Tony Byles from our 7th Battalion who used to handle laundry duty?”

Logan, holding the freshly filled glass, leaned back against the sofa. After furrowing his brow as if searching his memory, he opened his mouth with a questioning look.

“So the new recruit you met in your dream was that guy.”

Could it be… he actually remembered? Even though Sydney knew it was unreasonable to expect Logan—no matter how sharp his memory—to recall every single recruit, she pressed on.

“Yes. His face is vaguely familiar, and his name doesn’t feel unfamiliar either… so it’s bothering me a bit.”

She stared intently at Logan, silently urging him to share anything he knew. After a moment of silent contemplation, his expression hardened as he spoke.
