At the end of their passionate kiss, Logan Redford caught his breath and let his gaze slide away. Following that look, his fingertips slowly stirred Sydney’s senses awake.

“Even if you resent me for it… if I can strip away the guilt you carry toward Anthony Warden and the duty you feel toward Emilia Warden…”

Logan let his sentence trail off and met her eyes. His blue eyes, brimming with raw desire, silently asked for her permission.

“Now, please look at me properly.”

What had driven him to such extremes? Surely he hadn’t figured out why Emilia had come. But if it were Logan Redford… Yes, if anyone could see through it, it’d be him.

Sydney reached out and gently cupped his cheek.

“I’ve always been watching you… the one who will be my first and my last.”

Then, looking into his unsettled eyes, she smiled faintly.

“I won’t resent you at all. The Battle of Hilpin wasn’t Anthony Warden’s end—it was his perfect exit.”

“What?”

Sydney slowly pulled his stunned face closer and whispered, “He’s alive.”

For a brief moment Logan was bewildered—then, upon hearing that Anthony had sent a novel to Emilia, a flicker of realization crossed his face, and he smirked. Before Sydney could ask why he was smiling, he wrapped a hand around the back of her head and climbed onto the sofa above her.

After being laid down on the long sofa, Sydney was utterly swept away by his relentless kisses and shamelessly roaming hands—until dawn softly illuminated the study.
