I Received The First Time Of My Extraordinary Superior (9 Chapters Left to Complete) - Chapter 13
It was two hours ago.
27 Dustin Avenue.
Logan Redford muttered the address as he visited an old apartment building that looked like it could collapse at any moment without surprising anyone.
At the time, he was in an extremely foul mood—Victoria Orwello had kept repeating that if it concerned Marien, he should just ask Sydney Warden.
Logan climbed the stairs swiftly with his long legs and pushed open the door with its broken handle, stepping inside.
Honestly, not a shred of vigilance. Clicking his tongue as he entered, Logan came face to face with… Walter, who was coming out with a damp towel.
“Commander, what brings you here?”
“Lord Asner, aren’t you supposed to be on duty right now?”
“Oh, well, Sydney—ahem! There’s no one else to take care of Lord Warden.”
“Return to your post.”
Logan walked past Walter and stopped before a half-open door. Behind him, he heard Walter’s earnest plea to take good care of Sydney.
Logan Redford hesitated before the half-open door.
Sydney Warden.
Blessed with a sharp mind, exceptional swordsmanship, upright character, and an unwavering sense of duty—everyone liked him.
The number of people seeking out Sydney Warden had grown steadily over time. Sydney’s response to those who clung to him pointlessly never varied.
He maintained a suitable distance with indifferent eyes and an expressionless face—no different from how he treated Logan.
An utterly heartless fellow.
Sydney Warden only showed interest when provoked with harsh words—and even then, he usually responded with cold indifference that bordered on annoyance. Yet, even that small reaction was enough to make Logan breathe easier.
It wasn’t funny at all.
Logan Redford, of all people, obsessing over another man like some lovesick fool and acting so immaturely—it was absurd. Yet it had become undeniable truth, for no woman had ever stirred excitement in him.
Not until he met Marien.
Her question sent a flush of heat through his body. At last, his senses and body had responded.
Was it because he was drunk? Or was it some base male desire? Whichever it was, at that moment Logan Redford welcomed the thrill—even if it meant being dismissed as someone who only chased women with ridiculous talk.
“…I have to find Marien.”
Logan Redford muttered to himself as he entered the bedroom. After all, Marien had proven there was nothing wrong with his sexuality.
The first thing that caught his eye was the faded wallpaper.
An ambiguous shade that made him wonder whether it had once been blue or green; a wardrobe slanted from age; an old bed that looked like it belonged in a military hospital; and a window whose curtains fluttered even when closed.
Logan would bet his life that everything except the clothes and bedding had been left behind by the previous tenant.
Just how careless could someone be to use furniture and a bed whose previous owner they didn’t even know?
Logan shuddered in disgust as he glared at the person he’d been trying so hard to ignore.
Ah, I should’ve just left. Instant regret hit him the moment he saw Sydney, lying motionless like a corpse.
Pale sweat covered Sydney’s agonized, contorted face; dried blood clung thickly to his lips; his parched mouth barely exhaled a weak breath—and in an instant, Logan was brought back to square one.
No. Not anymore.
Clack, clack. Logan walked toward the bed, denying the unsettling emotions stirring within him.
He looked down at the red hair spread across the white pillow—recalling Marien’s lustrous golden locks.
From Sydney Warden’s sickly, exhausted face—remembering Marien’s flushed cheeks, stained with pleasure.
Instead of Sydney’s fragile, faltering breath—he imagined Marien’s moans… Logan superimposed Marien onto every feature of Sydney Warden.
Finally, a satisfied smile curled at the corner of his lips.
But then moisture gathered at the corners of Sydney’s eyes, blurring Logan’s vision.
Damn it. Just as he turned to leave—
At Sydney’s call, Logan’s head turned involuntarily. The boy was crying with a look of utter despair.
As always, Logan sat down at the head of the bed and placed his hand over Sydney’s eyes. Hot tears and muffled sobs soaked his palm.
Nightmares. Most of the time, the figures haunting Sydney were his father, Hugh Warden, and his older brother, Anthony Warden.
Sydney seemed burdened by some sense of guilt and obligation toward them. It wasn’t particularly pleasant to hear about—and Logan wasn’t even curious.
Yet…
Logan flinched at the words that slipped out like a soliloquy. Sydney’s stifled sobs wrapped around him, pulling him deeper into a swamp.
No more. Shaking his head, Logan pulled his hand away.
Sydney slowly opened his eyes. His hazy green gaze fixed on Logan, trembling intensely.
The suspicious look and the dissatisfied tone—neither of them pleased Logan.
He was glad Sydney hadn’t swayed him—and even more grateful for Marien, the woman who’d made it possible.

Thanks to her, Logan could now pull Sydney upright and shove him toward the bathroom.
He could finally put an end to this. With Marien—just having her—his racing heart would harden like stone.
Up to that point, Logan Redford had been utterly confident.
But even that didn’t go smoothly.
For some unknown reason, Sydney Warden was desperately trying to hide Marien—pushing Logan away again and again like a mother protecting her young.
He even denied that Logan would ever visit him out of concern for his health. Then what about all those times on the battlefield when Logan had cared for him whenever he fell ill?
Logan was so flabbergasted he couldn’t even speak properly.
But even that anger was short-lived.
The more infuriating Sydney became, the stronger Marien’s presence grew—not just as a one-night encounter, but as a rival capable of displacing Sydney entirely.
If Marien agreed, marriage wouldn’t be out of the question. Though his motives toward Sydney were admittedly impure, he intended to offer ample compensation and give his best effort.
Everything had been perfect.
Until he saw the red mark on Sydney Warden’s neck.
Strangely enough, Marien’s face was hazy in his memory—but the mark he himself had left remained crystal clear in his mind.
Why? How? How could that mark be on Sydney Warden’s neck?
At that moment, Sydney Warden looked genuinely flustered. Even the way he clenched his jaw and stubbornly refused to answer pleased Logan Redford.
It felt like watching prey he’d already cornered.
[This is the timeline separator]Sydney Warden and Marien—what if they were the same person? Then…
Just as he’d done when embracing Marien from behind,
Logan lowered his face toward Sydney Warden’s neck. Though his lips didn’t touch, he could feel each of Sydney’s fine hairs rising just as Marien’s had.
Her scent, warmth, and the feel of holding her—all matched exactly what he remembered of Marien.
Amid his confusion, Sydney scolded him.
Dislike? Logan Redford’s eyes snapped wide open. Along with them, an unwelcome reality stood before him.
Sydney Warden.
His red hair could never become Marien’s golden locks.
His cold green eyes could never turn into Marien’s clear blue ones, which seemed to hold the sky itself.
Most of all, damn it all—Sydney Warden was a man.
An artifact? Could it be some artifact that altered appearance? No. He’d never seen or heard of an artifact precise enough to do such a thing.
Yet Logan Redford decided to trust his intuition—every one of his senses screamed that Sydney Warden was Marien.
He demanded Sydney tell him how, where, and under what circumstances he’d met Marien.
If Sydney evaded even this, Logan vowed he’d wring his neck to escape this hell.
Lifting his head, Logan saw Victoria Orwello and Ernest Holden entering through the broken front door.
Logan Redford gestured sharply at the two of them to shut up. And so Sydney Warden’s story began.
Sydney recalled Marien with a dreamy gaze and voice, as if lost in a reverie—and seeing the gentle smile bloom on his face made Logan Redford’s heart sink.
Logan, whose heart had already been stolen, couldn’t question a single word of Sydney Warden’s murmuring.
Because his voice—mixed with labored breath—was more alluring and sweeter than the siren’s song that bewitched men.
Sydney Warden said he’d met Marien a year ago. That was correct—after all, the Crown Prince had given him the train ticket.
He said Marien had entered his compartment and boldly claimed to have chosen Sydney Warden.
And that the ever-cold Sydney Warden had willingly given up his seat for such an audacious woman? Impossible.
But as if refusing to allow even a shred of Logan’s doubt…
Sydney gave a soft chuckle and whispered,
He even nodded emphatically several times, as if insisting Logan believe him. Logan hurriedly asked another question to keep Sydney’s voice from stopping.
More, more, more—keep whispering. As Logan wished, Sydney’s story continued.
He seemed utterly entranced by her lovely smile and the song-like softness of her voice.
That was the end. Just as a candle’s flame fades when its wick burns out… the smile vanished from Sydney Warden’s face.
No matter how many questions Logan hurled at him, Sydney’s expression never brightened again. In the end…
As soon as those words left his lips, Sydney Warden’s shoulder thudded against the door. Only then did Logan Redford realize what he’d done.
But regret came too late.
Sydney Warden had already been taken into the arms of his lover, Victoria Orwello. The door closed firmly, as if to show Logan there was no space for him between them.
Logan Redford stared blankly at the closed door, then pulled a pocket watch from his coat.

8:32 p.m.—it had been two hours and ten minutes since he’d arrived. He slipped the watch back into his pocket and muttered,
“Only ten minutes have passed…”
Just then, Ernest Holden, stepping out through the door, spotted Logan and jumped in surprise. Logan shoved past the blocking Ernest and strode into the bedroom.
“I need to confirm something.”
