I Received The First Time Of My Extraordinary Superior (9 Chapters Left to Complete) - Chapter 1
Prologue.
The moon slipped out from behind the clouds, casting a faint glow into the darkened room.
A red dress hung on a chair, and the man’s discarded clothes were strewn across the floor. The bed creaked in rhythm with the woman’s muffled moans and the man’s ragged breathing.
Clang. Clang. Clang…
As the final chime of the temple bell signaling midnight faded, the man let out a low groan, and the woman’s cries ceased.
He lowered his head and kissed her forehead. Her name slipped softly from between his lips.
“Ha… Marien…”
At the sound of that name, Sydney cracked open her eyes and reached up to caress the man’s cheek as he looked down at her. The dampness of his skin and the rough stubble of his beard reignited her desire.
Even though her whole body ached as if she’d been beaten… she still craved him.
“I… I think I’m drunk.”
The man gave a soft chuckle and buried his face in her palm, then gazed intently into Sydney’s eyes. A flicker of fire rekindled within his blue irises.
“I’m drunk on you too, Marien.”
Marien… Just a random name she’d blurted out. Because… this man was her infuriating superior.
Always quick to anger.
And his obsession with cleanliness—how obsessive could one man be?
“I… prefer kind men…”
“I’ll be kind.”
As their lips parted lightly… Sydney’s eyes slowly closed.
Their breaths entwined, and his touch grew more lascivious, heating her body.
The moon retreated once more behind the clouds, and darkness fell again. His voice resonated between their lips.
“May I turn on the light? I want to see your face clearly.”
“No.”
Sydney grasped his hand and whispered, “I’m… too shy.”
In the darkness, the bed began to sway once more. Their reason numbed by alcohol, the two drank deeply of each other’s pleasure.
They indulged in one another until dawn, falling asleep simultaneously without either realizing who drifted off first.
Sydney was the first to awaken. A sigh escaped her lips as she confirmed the man lying beside her.
“Oh.”
Slowly, she peeled his arm from around her waist and shifted her body—moving with the stealth of a thief.
But the moment she stepped off the bed, her legs gave way, and she wobbled.
“Ugh.”
Startled by her own groan, she clamped a hand over her mouth and turned slowly. Thankfully, Logan was still asleep.
Sydney hurriedly dressed and slipped out of the room. In her haste, she put on her heels only after exiting the hotel room.
Once outside the hotel, Sydney hailed a carriage. Inside the swaying carriage, she squeezed her eyes shut and groaned.
“Ugh… alcohol… you’re my enemy. Surely… the captain didn’t recognize me, did he?”
All the way home, Sydney replayed last night’s events over and over in her mind.
Chapter 1.
Marcel, the capital of the Arsenal Empire, was both a bustling trade port and the heart of culture and indulgence.
Because incidents and disturbances in Marcel never ceased, the Crown Prince had assembled an investigation team led by Logan Redford, Captain of the Imperial Guard.
Upon entering the investigation office, one was first met by four desks arranged in pairs facing each other. Sydney Warden and Walter Asner sat side by side, while Andy Spencer occupied the opposite seats.
December 31st—today marked the start of the holiday break.
As quitting time approached, stacks of processed documents steadily accumulated on their desks.
The wall clock pointed to 5:50 PM. Walter stretched and turned to Sydney.
“Ah… so this year’s over too. Surely they won’t make us work overtime today, right?”
“Walter, you took Thanksgiving off… so you have to work during the year-end holidays.”
Although the investigation team didn’t directly patrol the city, they personally investigated every scene of incidents and accidents. Thus, even on public holidays and festivals, they took shifts.
Walter leaned toward Sydney and lowered his voice.
“Sydney, about that…”
“No.”
“What? You haven’t even heard me out!”
Walter bristled at Sydney’s blunt interruption, but she didn’t even glance at him.
Trending
“I have plans this holiday too.”
At the word “plans,” both men’s eyes widened.
Sydney Warden, who usually chased after overtime and holiday pay, was taking time off?
“Really?”
“Why are you so surprised?”
Sydney frowned and pressed him. Under her scrutiny, Andy scratched the back of his head and stammered.
“Well… uh… I was going to introduce you to a woman, my lord.”
Sydney only lived as a man out of necessity. Naturally, such offers put her in an awkward position.
“Wow, that’s unfair. What about me? Introduce someone to me too!”
“The lady specifically asked for Lord Warden.”
Despite Walter’s loud protest, Andy’s eyes followed Sydney as she stood to leave. Walter draped an arm over Sydney’s shoulder just as she was about to walk out and grumbled right into her ear.
“What do women even see in such a skinny guy?”
“Lord Warden is handsome—even to men.”
Both Sydney, who had been pushing Walter away, and Walter, who had been clinging to her shoulder, froze with their mouths agape.
Did he just say that? Before Sydney could even question herself, Walter pointed an accusing finger at Andy and shouted.
“Hey! Why’s your face so red?”
“It’s not!”
Andy, with his curly crimson hair, denied it in a weak voice—but his face only grew redder.
“Lord Spencer, I appreciate the offer… but I’ll have to decline.”
Sydney’s voice was husky and deep. Combined with her tall, slender frame and the masculine habits and speech patterns ingrained over four years of living as a man, no one had ever suspected her true gender.
Walter latched onto Sydney again and bombarded her with questions.
“Sydney, did you meet someone? Why’d you refuse? Your ‘plans’ today… are you seeing a woman?”
“Yes.”
“Wow. Traitor.”
Just then, Sydney, who had reached for the doorknob, was suddenly yanked backward.
“Ugh.”
Walter pulled her back just in time to prevent her from colliding with Logan Redford, who was opening the door.
Sparks flew from Logan’s eyes, but Walter cheerfully greeted him first.
“Captain, you’re here.”
Thanks to that, Logan’s mouth snapped shut just as he seemed about to scold them. Sydney finally came to her senses and stepped aside from the doorway.
As Logan passed her with heavy footsteps, he stopped abruptly.
“Sydney Warden, the night shift roster for today?”
“It’s on your desk.”
Sydney met his gaze as she answered.
“Your whereabouts during the holidays?”
“Yes, I’ve submitted it.”
“The report on the last kidnapping case?”
“That as well.”
When Logan raised his hand, Sydney clamped her mouth shut. Seeing no further fault to find, Logan grumbled sourly.
“Be reachable at all times.”
“Understood.”
“You have plans, you said?”
“Yes, that’s correct.”
Logan singled out Sydney more than anyone else, and she responded with excessive formality, ending every sentence with “-imnida.”
Logan gave a quiet chuckle, signaling the end of their tense exchange. His next target was Walter.
“Walter Asner, gather the night shift staff and head to the plaza.”
“And you, Captain?”
“…”
Walter’s tactless question visibly weakened Logan’s momentum. Instead, a look of disdain flickered across Logan’s face.
“My apologies.”

Walter offered an awkward smile and bowed his head. It always ended like this, which is why Logan rarely ever picked on Andy Spencer.
With a loud thud, Logan strode into his office, prompting Sydney to grimace and mutter,
“Why’s he in such a foul mood?”
“Men with no one to meet on days like this are always like that. I envy you, Lord Warden.”
“The Captain probably wouldn’t be in a better mood even if he had a woman…”
“…”
What nonsense was this? No matter how disinterested Logan seemed in women, he was still at the peak of his youth…
Walter peeked toward the office and whispered conspiratorially,
“I once overheard Lord Holden saying… that he’s, uh… useless.”
“Useless at what?”
Sydney gave him a confused look. Andy, who had followed Walter’s gaze downward, gasped in horror.
“Wait… are you saying he’s impotent?”
“So… just think how envious he must be of you, going off to meet a woman. Tsk, hurry up and go!”
Walter flapped both hands as if shooing away a bug. And so, Sydney was practically shoved out the door by Walter.
“So that’s why he was acting like such an ass. How did that even happen…”
She glanced back at the brown stone building behind her and clicked her tongue briefly.
[This is the timeline separator]Not long ago, the Arsenal Empire’s victory in war had filled its capital, Marcel, with more vitality than ever. After all, people could finally welcome the new year with family, lovers, or friends returning home after a long absence.
Despite the cold weather, the streets teemed with people. Blending into the crowd, Sydney pulled up the collar of her black coat and quickened her pace.
As the triumphant melody celebrating victory drifted through the biting wind, passersby began humming along. Some even sang aloud.
No matter how loud the singing grew, Sydney’s lips remained sealed.
“Arsenal! May you endure forever!”
“Wooaaah!”
Lifting her head at the cheer, Sydney found herself facing a vast plaza. At its center stood a towering white statue that dwarfed everything around it.
The Great Conqueror, Emperor Cloud.
He sat astride a rearing horse, cloak billowing as he thrust his sword toward the heavens. A military band before him beat steady drums, and as if on cue, the people united their voices in song.
“Arise, for my homeland!
Fight, in the name of Arsenal!
Warriors of Arsenal, fear not!
For the Divine has granted light to Arsenal.
With this light, we shall banish the darkness.”
Was it the song that summoned back the madness of the ten-year war?
While everyone stomped and sang at the top of their lungs, disdain and mockery spread across Sydney’s face.
Just then, someone tapped her shoulder and called out.
“Sydney?”
She turned slowly—and her eyes widened. The woman threw her arms around Sydney in delight.
“It is you! My friend, Sydney Warden!”
“What are you doing here? Where’s your escort?”
Victoria Orwello linked arms with Sydney and deftly changed the subject.
“When I realized I’d see you… I just couldn’t stay home waiting. So I came out to meet you.”
Sydney glanced around and sighed deeply—there was no sign of anyone who looked like Victoria’s escort.
—December 31st, evening. Meet me in Marcel. Your Vicky.
A short, concise telegram. That was why Sydney had taken leave.
“What if we’d missed each other on the streets?”
“All roads in Marcel lead to Cloud Plaza.”
Victoria beamed and winked.
She had a point. When Emperor Cloud declared Marcel the capital, he first laid out six radial roads from the plaza. The resulting seven districts were then designated as commercial zones, residential areas, and so on.
“Let’s go.”
“Yeah! But wow… you’ve gotten even more handsome.”
“…”

Without a word, Sydney gently pulled Victoria’s petite shoulder toward her, shielding her as they pushed through the bustling crowd and left the plaza behind.
As they entered Mayfield Avenue, the street grew quieter. Being District 7—the nobles’ residential quarter—both the roads and buildings were impeccably maintained.
“Sydney, didn’t you say your superior was giving you trouble?”
“Did Walter tell you?”
“Well… you always write in your letters that everything’s fine…”
Victoria glanced away and mumbled evasively. If only she’d stopped there.
A moment later, she pressed close to Sydney and whispered as if sharing a secret.
“Sydney… I’ve been thinking… I’m pretty sure that superior of yours… is in love with you.”

When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!

The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
