Though not uncoordinated—and in fact quite a good dancer—Ferdant was, by nature, not particularly sociable.

He found crowds burdensome and preferred solitude, possessing an ordinary, introverted disposition.

Truth be told, Ferdant had just fled the ballroom precisely because he disliked having to dance one after another with noble ladies who, eyes blazing with ambition to become empress, relentlessly threw themselves at him—including Lorelaine herself.

Yet here she was, chasing him all the way to this spot to ask for a dance. Truly, what a tenacious little girl.

Ferdant made his displeasure abundantly clear, lowering his head deeply toward the ground.

But the impudent child paid no heed, crouching down nearly flat on the floor to meet Ferdant’s eyes.

“Just one dance, please.”

Seeing Lorelaine lying almost flat on the garden ground, giggling cheerfully as if something delighted her, Ferdant reluctantly rose to his feet and extended his hand.

“Hehe.”

Without a shred of pride, Lorelaine didn’t even brush off the dust clinging to her hair before eagerly grabbing Ferdant’s hand and springing upright.

“Ugh. There’s a twig stuck in your hair.”

Ferdant, who had always enjoyed caring for Lorelaine since childhood, instinctively reached out and plucked the twig from her hair.

Lorelaine gazed up at Ferdant—so much taller than herself—with adoring eyes.
