I Possessed the Wicked Empress (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 87
“Ugh. What on earth is that woman?”
Arbian had become a candidate for archbishop in his early twenties not only because of his boundless divine power, but also due to a special reason unknown to the public.
He was someone who could see through souls.
Though what he saw was merely a vague shape and impression, it was enough to discern how corrupted a person’s soul truly was.
When Arbian was very young, he once pointed at a passing stranger and exclaimed, “That man’s soul is as red as blood!”—after which those around him treated him like a lunatic. Soon afterward, he lost his father to an assassin who had been targeting him.
Since no one ever believed his claims about discerning souls anyway, and because he blamed himself for having carelessly spoken out and thereby caused his father’s death, Arbian had grown to nearly despise his own ability.
Then, after losing his mother too during childhood due to famine and war, Arbian finally came to understand the true value of his power while struggling to survive on the harsh streets.
It allowed him to distinguish who he could leech off of, who he could swindle, who he must never touch, and who he should avoid even brushing against.
Had fate not intervened—had his divine power not activated at that critical moment, leading him to meet Archbishop Noctavius—he likely would have ended up using his ability merely to leech off or scam someone, only to be caught and discovered later as a pitiful corpse in some back alley.
“It’s pitch black. Utter darkness—no light can seep through at all.”
“Just darkness, then?”
“Dark, evil… and sad.”
That was his impression of Ermedilin when he first saw her after becoming Noctavius’s disciple and visiting the capital.
Noctavius, the only person who believed in his ability, gave a bitter smile upon hearing those words.
“I see… an evil and sorrowful soul.”

Male lead fell into her trap — and shattered when she walked away
This is also on my reread list!
This one is a slow burn, but when it burns, it burns hard.
Definitely worth a read, y’all!

The story follows a thousand-year-old seductive spirit who, on a bet, sets out to charm the male lead—a once-promising but unfortunate cultivator.
But just when she succeeds in making him fall for her, she heartlessly leaves, driving him to madness.
Determined to find her at all costs, he captures her, keeping her by his side no matter what, even if she hates him.
I love this kind of trope—I enjoy watching the male lead suffer in agony.
The ending drags a bit with unnecessary filler, but that’s fine.
As long as I enjoy the beginning, I’m good.
