The orphanage’s attached school had many applicants for basic technical fields, but almost none for specialized education.

Even though the salary was quite generous.

“Probably thought teaching orphans wouldn’t do any good for their career,” Ermedillin mumbled, visibly frustrated.

Ignoring the gesture from Belestr to leave, she cautiously initiated conversation.

“Your Majesty.”

“Hmm? Why are you still here?”

“May we assist in finding teachers?”

“What?”

“Connections are important for this sort of thing. No teacher will plan to stay at the orphanage forever, especially not highly qualified ones.”

“Indeed. The applicants are not satisfactory. Prince Pellio said he had some applications, but…”

Smirking, Belestr openly snorted at the mention of Pellio’s name.

“What contacts would he have? One of my tutors ran away crying after making a grammar mistake and getting heavily scolded by Pellio.”

“Ah, the prince does have some level of selflove…”

“Some level? He must have been careful in front of you, Your Majesty. The only friend Pellio has is Roberto, Liena’s older brother. Roberto is now estranged from his family, so he won’t be of any help.”

Holding back her comment that Pellio never restrained his tongue and was initially very rude, Ermedillin could not help but smile at the thought of his shameless bragging.

“Why are you laughing?”

Confused, Belestr asked. Ermedillin burst into laughter and managed to speak.

“It’s just that hearing firsthand how unsociable he is made me laugh… hehe…”

She couldn’t stop laughing at the thought of teasing him about his number of friends next time they met.

“What’s so funny? That guy… I mean, the prince is quite malicious.”

Belestr’s face looked rather uneasy, as did Viella who was quietly standing behind.

“He’s not that malicious to me. In fact, he’s been quite helpful.”

“Pellio is intelligent, yes. He’ll be helpful with budgeting and legal matters but not so much with networking.”

Upon reflection, Belestr had a point.

Especially when it came to dealing with women, Pellio always seemed to have a cold wind blowing around him. Ermedillin had witnessed this several times.

“So, we will help. Teachers aiming for highertier families require recommendation letters from their previous employers. If you entrust this duty to me, I’ll announce that along with a generous salary, they’ll get a recommendation letter stamped with the seal of the Elenian family. Let’s set the minimum service period at around three years.”

Ermedillin looked up at Belestr, her face blank.

“Is my suggestion bad?”

Shaking her head, Ermedillin abruptly stood and walked over to Belestr. She grabbed her hand.

“Bad? You look like a genius to me, like a savior!”

“What?”

“A recommendation letter! I never even thought of that. It’s a fantastic idea!”

Ermedillin beamed and vigorously shook the hand she held.

In that laughter, there was no trace of pretense or hidden agenda.

Just pure awe and joy.
It was but a fleeting moment when Ermedillin waved her hand, yet for Belelest, time seemed to slow.

The innocent smile that was clearly present before her eyes etched itself into Belelest’s mind, redefining Ermedillin within her.

“I’m glad you think so. I will do my best to help, as it’s a good cause.”

“Thank you, thank you! It feels like I’ve gained an army!”

Flooded with joy at the thought of having more support, Ermedillin, who had been continuously smiling, suddenly realized something and whispered in a serious tone.

“Whether you help or not, I plan to keep refusing the marriage proposal until you’re ready. You don’t need to feel indebted to help me. There’s no need to force yourself into something you don’t want.”

Belelest gently released Ermedillin’s hand, bowed her head, and gave a melancholic smile.

“My late husband loved children. However, we never had any of our own. So, he would often bring orphans back from outside. He would find them suitable work and take care of them in the castle. My desire to help you is not because of the Empress. It’s simply my way of mourning him.”

Belelest’s eyes were moist, as if tears would flow at any moment, but none came.

Ermedillin found that restrained, moist smile both sad and beautiful.

Born into a wealthy family, even the beautiful young noblewoman Ermedillin had her share of life’s pain.

Although she felt a bit shameful to think this way about someone else’s misfortune, Ermedillin felt a slight blur in her deeply buried feelings of inadequacy.

“Very well. Then mourn as you wish.”

With graceful movements befitting a princess, Belelest bowed her head and told Ermedillin that she would go find a tutor immediately.

After Belelest left, Biella, who was still there, seemed to have something to say and licked her lips.

Ermedillin had no interest in accepting a hollow apology, nor did she want to forgive even if she did accept it. She tried to look away, but Biella beat her to it.

“I want to teach foreign languages.”

“Excuse me?”

Caught off guard, Ermedillin unintentionally let out an odd sound.

Male lead is a Love-Obsessed Merman

When he discovers she has gone, he risks everything to pursue her on land, enduring agonizing pain to transform his tail into human legs…

One-line summary: Male lead chases female lead. The male lead’s love is a bit sick, an invincible love brain.

Synopsis

During a voyage at sea, Jiang Yang accidentally captures a merman.

Servant: I heard that mermen are fierce and brutal.

Jiang Yang looks at the merman obediently rubbing her palm like a puppy: “You call this fierce and brutal?”

Servant: I heard that mermen have no human nature.

Jiang Yang looks at the merman with wet puppy eyes, obsessively calling her ‘A Yang’ like a childish infant: “You call this having no human nature?”

With great difficulty, she releases the merman back into the sea and returns to shore.

Who would have thought that in less than half a month, the merman, who should have been freely wandering in the South China Sea, would shed his scales, endure the pain of losing his tail, transform into human legs, and come ashore to find her?

He kneels at her feet, rubbing her palm, with merman tears rolling down: “A Yang, don’t abandon me.”
