It was an odd feeling—the way he looked at me, as if inspecting the quality of a product I’d personally chosen.

‘Right. To the king, I must seem like mere merchandise.’

“Anyway, my lady Lorenst—no, wait. Father and daughter shouldn’t be so stiff with each other, should they? May I call you Igraine informally?”

My eyes widened.

Though calling each other by name wasn’t unusual between father and daughter, he was the king.

It was highly unusual for a king to address someone without a title by their given name.

I bowed my head respectfully.

“It would be an honor, Your Majesty.”

‘So he’s going to start pretending we’re close now.’

Thereupon, the king began calling me by name with ease.

This indirectly signaled that he didn’t view me as merely a nominal princess—though, of course, only nominally so.

“Count, you’ve hidden such a lovely young lady from us all this time!”

“She’s simply so diligent—there’s always much for her to do even at home.”

Hubert replied with an easy smile. The king, clearly in good spirits, chuckled heartily and his gaze shifted to Aris standing beside Hubert.

Noticing his attention, she lifted the hem of her dress slightly and offered a polite curtsy.
