How had Mercedes become so strong all of a sudden?

Since the day he confessed his love, Mercedes had often frankly said she disliked him. Yet she carried herself with boldness.

She was truly a different woman from the timid one he knew.

Carlos set aside his worries and nodded.

“Then, let’s go in.”

“Yes.”

Carlos ordered the guard to open the dungeon door.

The massive iron door, triple-locked, creaked open slowly.

As they descended the stairs, a damp, chilling odor filled the air. Carlos drew Mercedes close, wrapping an arm around her shoulder.

Mercedes quietly grasped the large hand on her shoulder and descended the stairs calmly.

She thought, perhaps, that underground dungeons were all much the same.

She found the chill and dampness—

quite pleasing.

Mercedes straightened her spine even more.

After descending a little further, they encountered an even thicker iron door, which was opened. Beyond it, they had to pass through another door made of iron bars.
