That damned god.

Sesenia almost blurted it out.

‘Our god has already abandoned us—why do you keep talking about gods?’

There is no god.

God is an utterly selfish being who long ago gave up on the Empire.

“The god, you say…”

“Lately… I’ve been having strange dreams.”

“Dreams?”

“Yes. I don’t recall them clearly, but they’re terrible nightmares. In them, I seem to have inflicted an unforgivable wound upon you. I always wake up regretting it. Perhaps… that’s why I’ve been seeing things differently about you lately. I don’t know.”

Sesenia quietly gazed at her father.

“Is that all? Just that dream?”

“It’s a nightmare—I don’t remember it well. Just… hmm. It felt as if you had died. That’s probably why I regretted it so deeply. But it’s all so hazy—I can’t be sure.”

A dream. Was it truly just a dream? Or was it showing him events from the future—time that had returned?

‘Surely it’s impossible… even Father is beginning to know?’

But that didn’t seem to be the case.
