Episode 4: Despair (2)
Ian. Ian was a prince and Sesenia’s only friend. They shared practically all their life’s moments together. As they grew, everyone thought they would naturally become lovers and marry.
But when Sesenia got engaged to the Crown Prince, their relationship never developed beyond friendship.
Still, she kept Ian by her side because he always cared for her more than anyone else. He sincerely advised her. He was always on her side.
Even when her freethinking sister Elzer caused trouble, when Sesenia had to take over the family and perform dual duties as the Empress because of Elzer, it was Ian who condemned Elzer and their father.
And now Ian says he loves her sister.
Sesenia was utterly astonished.
“Love. Okay, fine. If it’s such a flimsy emotion that leads to this… I can understand. But are you really okay with this, Ian? She mingled with my husband. How can you love such a woman?”
“That’s why you’re foolish. Someone as dull as you wouldn’t understand true love.”
“So, because I don’t understand love, I’m foolish?”
“Exactly.”
Sesenia barely held back her laughter at this absurdity. But Ian seemed blissfully entranced by his love.
“Elzer always shines so brightly. Unlike you, who’s perpetually gloomy.”
“With all sorts of men, even stealing her sister’s husband, she’s different from me?”
“Yes.”
“Truly… love is for fools and idiots. To love a woman who bore my husband’s child… If that’s love, then love is really not worth pursuing.”
A love that discards basic morality was disgusting and nauseating.
Meanwhile, Ian began blaming Sesenia.
“All of this is your fault.”
“Now it’s my fault?”
“Had you not been so greedy, none of this would have happened.”
“Greed? What greed did I show?”
Sesenia was dumbfounded. She had never been greedy in her life. She lived as a substitute for Elzer at her father’s wish. She took on everything Elzer hated doing. Yet she was accused of being greedy.
“Tell me, Ian. You’ve known me the closest. What greed have I shown? Was it wrong to take over the family because Elzer threw a tantrum, saying she didn’t want it? Was marrying the Crown Prince, whom she refused, calling him a hopeless prince who could never become Emperor, a mistake?”
She thought he was on her side.
Until she saw Ian, she believed there must be a reason, that he couldn’t have abandoned her.
Up until the last moment, Sesenia trusted her friend. The pain she received from her husband, who cheated on her daily, from her sister who slept with her husband, was nothing compared to this betrayal.
To Sesenia, Ian was a friend and the only person she trusted.
‘I was the real fool.’
She never understood people who rationalized their infidelities, thinking they were engaged in a beautiful romance, the love of the century. And still, she couldn’t understand it.
Maybe because she never experienced passionate love, but to her, love was the worst thing. It caused pain to others because of one’s own feelings, nothing beautiful or romantic.
Sesenia chuckled.
“Speak up, Ian. Why are you silent? Or do you have nothing to say? You know I never desired anything. And love? Isn’t it ultimately unattainable? What will you do now? Stop harboring vain hopes…”
It was then.
No matter what Sesenia said, Ian seemed completely unaffected. On the contrary, he scorned her situation.
“So, you’re trying to survive by being so pitiful?”
“…….”
“Love will eventually happen. If I keep taking care of her, she will eventually look at me. I am just patiently waiting for that now. After all, my brother’s promiscuity is quite notorious, and in the end, my sister will be left alone.”
“And so what if she’s left alone? What changes then?”
“It’s natural for people to notice those who are by their side when they’re lonely. Eventually, my sister will come to me. And then I will become the Emperor. For her.”
“Really… what a great lover you turned out to be.”
Sesenia was chilled to the bone realizing he had secretly aided Elzer while exploiting her. He did what was favorable for Elzer and exploited Sesenia.
“Thanks for letting yourself be used. Thanks to you, I got closer to my sister.”
“Ha…….”
If it were just her sister using her, to obtain something she wanted, it would have been less unfair. But the betrayal by a friend, a long-time friend with whom she even talked about marriage, was incomprehensible.
“Really… why did I ever trust you?”
“Because you’re stupid.”
“That’s right. I was a complete idiot for falling for such an obvious trap.”
It was then.
“Sesenia, my dear sister Sesenia.”
Elzer appeared, accompanied by the sound of her clicking heels.
“Ah.”
In her arms, she held a very small baby.
“You’re dying tomorrow, so shouldn’t you see your niece before that? Oh wait, not a niece… your husband’s child. What should our baby call you?”
Sesenia felt her blood run cold as she watched Elzer smirking.
“……Is that really what you want to say to me now?”
“Of course. Why did you have to act so wickedly, even though you’re an empress?”
My Arch-enemy Sealed My Memory and Said That He is My Husband
This is an incredibly captivating story that you absolutely shouldn’t miss! I’ll give a brief introduction here, and below you’ll find a detailed synopsis of the plot.
The female lead is a fierce and powerful demon king. The male lead is a once-in-a-millennium celestial lord, admired by the entire cultivation world.
They are equally matched, legendary rivals who have battled for centuries.
In the final duel, the female lead is gravely injured. The male lead saves her, seals her memories, and hides her true identity. He tells her that he is her fiancé. His entire life has been flawless—except for the one thing he never expected, never controlled, and never wanted to control: falling for his greatest enemy. She is his inner demon, his obsession.
When the female lead regains her memories, she is furious at his deception.
She makes his life a living hell.
And somehow, the male lead—possibly a total masochist—doesn’t mind at all. In fact, he’s happy she’s paying attention to him.
Yep, we’re back to my favorite trope: male lead suffering. If you love this kind of story, jump into the pit with me now!!!
Intro
Dong Xia lost her memory.
Her handsome and extremely powerful fiancé Li Qing comforted her: “It’s okay if you can’t remember. I’ll always be with you.”
Everyone thought Dong Xia’s ancestors must have burned incense to get such a perfect fiancé. He was the number one person in the immortal realm, yet he remained chaste and only loved her.
…
The day before marrying her fiancé, Dong Xia finally remembered everything.
She wasn’t suffering from memory loss at all.
Her arch-enemy had made her fake her death, destroyed her cultivation, replaced her memories, and pretended to be her deeply in love fiancé.
No wonder he said, “It’s okay if you can’t remember”!
Dong Xia laughed coldly as she pulled out her long knife: Li Qing, prepare to die 🙂
*
Li Qing, as the supreme being of the immortal realm, was the people’s shining beacon.
The only unknown stain in his life was his affection for Dong Xia, the ruler of the demon realm.
In the final battle of the war between immortals and demons, the sky collapsed and the earth shattered. The ruler of the demon realm was finally slain under the sword of the supreme being of the immortal realm, and everyone in the immortal realm applauded.
The cultivation world lost a ruler of the demon realm.
And in the back mountain of Li Qing’s cave dwelling, he secretly hid away a fiancée.
Notes:
1. The female lead is white on the outside, black on the inside, and the queen of flattery; the male lead repeatedly tests the edge of darkness, a VIP guest at the crematorium.
