“Tedd, I don’t believe in love.”
‘Yet, I have come to love you. Is it alright for me to… Can I love you?’
Sesenia’s silver hair gently brushed against her fingertips. The man knelt before her, pressing his cheek into her hand. It wasn’t just the tickling sensation at her fingertips that stirred her – his eyes were moist with unshed tears. Despite his large stature, he yearned for her desperately.
“Then, if not love, possess me. I’ll do anything for you. So please, my master, take me completely as yours.”
“No, I’ve used you enough.”
“No, please use me more. Break me down, so that I have nowhere else to turn but to you.”
“No…”
“Are you going to abandon me? After saving me, now you want to leave? Why? Why?”
Sesenia slowly released his hand, but his long fingers intertwined with hers, trying to hold on in any way possible. His scarred hand tangled in her pale one complicated her feelings.
“I’m not abandoning you. It’s about realizing our place. Tedd, I only intended to use you to ascend to the throne.”
“So, you don’t need me anymore?”
“No.”
“You said you would become my empress, stay by my side. That’s why I endured everything. So why… why are you thinking of leaving? I’ll become the emperor, and lay this country at your feet. Just… don’t leave.”
She couldn’t let go. Sesenia looked at him with a troubled expression.
He was of imperial blood but discarded. Sesenia had saved him, not for a grand cause, but merely as a tool – to take revenge on a friend who betrayed her and stole her husband, and for herself who died because of them.
“I intended to use you. You know that. So why…”
“I feel like I can’t live without you.”
Sighing, Sesenia gazed at him. Tedd stood up and embraced her tightly.
“So… don’t go. I’ll do everything you want, even if it means bringing you the emperor’s head…”
“Alright, Tedd.”
“Stay here… as my master. I’ll come back. You won’t leave, right?”
“Yes.”
“Tell me I did well.”
Stepping back from Tedd’s embrace, Sesenia stood on tiptoes and gently stroked his head.
“You did well.”
“Stay… keep staying here…”
She hadn’t anticipated such an obsession. Was it because she let him live like a human, which he had never experienced before? Was it her fault for always keeping him close because she needed him? Whatever it was, Tedd’s obsession grew stronger by the day. Sesenia watched him quietly.
Only after hearing her words did Tedd seem reassured and slowly backed away.
“I should go where I belong… you won’t be angry, right?”
“Yes. Go. I’ll come to you.”
“…You must come. Please don’t hate me.”
“Yes.”
Finally reassured, Tedd climbed out the window.
“Ah…”
Watching all along, two figures emerged.
“Why do you keep such a pathetic guy around? Aside from his royal blood. He’s so pitiful.”
“Once you acknowledged Tedd.”
“But now that I’m the king, it’s frustrating. Why do you care about him when I’m here? I like you, Nia.”
“Don’t joke. Tedd is better than you, brother.”
They were strikingly similar twins, hardly human in appearance – more like fairies, if they existed. With light sky-blue hair and pale faces, the only difference between them was their hair length. The twins, Silian and Pepe, naturally clung to Sesenia’s side.
“Don’t choose that and pick me. To aid your revenge, I went to a place I’d rather die than return to and killed everything that got in the way. So, stay by my side, Nia. If you desire revenge, I’ll make it happen.”
“Sister. We will do it for you. So don’t ask others, just look at us. No, just me. You don’t need any men. I will save you, sister. So, submit to me. I will be everything to you.”
Sesenia shook her head, smiling at the two people.
Twins, exiled from their homeland just for being twins. This country was where they barely managed to adapt, yet they were at risk of being expelled again. Sesenia had saved these twins, thinking they might be of some use to her.
However, she wondered if this, too, was a wrong decision. Following Ted, these two also clung to her obsessively.
“No. I’ll handle the revenge myself.”
“If you say so, I understand. We’ll do revenge your way. But Nia, I can’t stand to see you being friendly with others for the sake of revenge anymore.”
“Ah…”
Sesenia sighed deeply, looking at the sticky twins.
She had just raised men for the sake of revenge…
9 months ago.
For Sesenia, that day was no different from any other.
‘My husband is cheating again today. I’m tired of this. Why did I marry this man? I married for happiness, but I’m not happy at all.’
Sesenia seemed devoid of emotion, resigned to her situation. Even now, heading to the Emperor’s chamber to chase out the woman he brought to his bedroom, she felt nothing.
If it weren’t for ‘that person’ inside, it would have been just another regular day.
“My little bird, you are so beautiful today. Every moment with you is thrilling.”
“Oh, you too…”
“It feels like a dream, having you by my side. You should have always been there.”
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
Here’s the story synopsis:
