“Really stabbing him? Are you out of your mind?”

Sonatek shrugged his shoulders with an unashamed expression.

“Would they have believed it otherwise?”

There wasn’t the slightest trace of guilt on the handsome young man’s light brown eyes—not for having harmed an elder, nor for nearly killing him. Sonatek looked as innocent as a child who had no idea what he’d done wrong, completely oblivious to right and wrong. Yet at the same time, he appeared cruel, like a beast devoid of human decency.

Alejandro briefly regretted having joined hands with him for the first time.

‘Did I make the wrong choice?’

He hadn’t been acting. He could have truly died. He knew better than anyone—he’d walked right up to death’s threshold, his breath nearly gone. He’d made an unavoidable choice for great honor, but what good would any of it be if he died?

Though briefly engulfed in regret, Alejandro soon asked Sonatek,

“What about the prophecy scroll?”

At Alejandro’s words, Sonatek pulled a large bundle of papers from his chest. The cover and parts of the prophecy scroll, which had lost its past, were tattered as if bearing the marks of hardship. Only its faint golden glow remained, testifying that it was indeed a divine artifact containing the profound secrets of this world.

Flipping through several pages of the damaged scroll, Alejandro sighed.

“It’s a mess.”

“Well, I didn’t exactly have the luxury of time to cut it neatly, so you’ll have to understand.”

Alejandro’s eyes flickered toward the black bird perched on Sonatek’s shoulder.
