“Oh? What brings you here? Coming home this early? And what’s that you’re holding in your hand?”

“I bought it for you.”

“Oh my? Did the sun rise in the west this morning? What on earth did you do to come home with flowers?”

Paulo, who had returned earlier than usual, walked straight into the bedroom without a word, annoyed by his wife’s probing questions as she looked at the flowers he offered her.

Normally, he would have stayed out drinking with women at a tavern until late in the evening, but today was important—he needed an alibi proving he’d been home early.

Thus, Paulo deliberately stopped by a flower shop on his way home, buying flowers to let the neighbors know he’d returned early.

Filled with the hope that tomorrow would come quickly, Paulo went to bed early.

The next morning, Paulo woke up earlier than usual. Suppressing his urge to rush straight to his shop, he deliberately left for work about thirty minutes later than normal.

As he walked closer to the shop, his pace quickened with growing impatience.

When he finally reached his shop, the opposite storefront was swarming with curious onlookers.
