I Had the Enemy's Baby (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 37
The woman reflected in the mirror carefully touched her necklace and turned her head left and right, examining herself.
“I’ve never done anything like this before.”
She murmured to herself, then suddenly realizing what she’d said, awkwardly clamped her mouth shut.
Seeing Clodel glance at him cautiously, Kai An started to raise an eyebrow but lowered it again.
He saw clearly through the old fox of Valmont’s calculations.
It was merely a pretense of reconciliation forced by royal decree.
That man had not an ounce of genuine intent to accept him as a son-in-law—likely because he couldn’t bear the thought that upon Clodel’s death, her dowry and bridal gifts would all go to House Temnes.
Kai An himself had no daughter yet, but if he were in that man’s place and had to send his own daughter off to Valmont, he probably would have done the same.
He didn’t want her feeling guilty over it or watching his every reaction.
He’d already chosen to overlook the matter, but he couldn’t openly acknowledge that he knew.
If House Vermonde sent their daughter off to marry with empty hands, it would become a serious offense requiring formal protest from House Temnes.
And that would damage Clodel’s standing within the Temnes household.
He didn’t wish for a gentle and innocent woman to suffer because of such schemes.
‘I really must be bewitched.’
He wondered what about this woman had changed him so thoroughly.

Male lead fell into her trap — and shattered when she walked away
This is also on my reread list!
This one is a slow burn, but when it burns, it burns hard.
Definitely worth a read, y’all!

The story follows a thousand-year-old seductive spirit who, on a bet, sets out to charm the male lead—a once-promising but unfortunate cultivator.
But just when she succeeds in making him fall for her, she heartlessly leaves, driving him to madness.
Determined to find her at all costs, he captures her, keeping her by his side no matter what, even if she hates him.
I love this kind of trope—I enjoy watching the male lead suffer in agony.
The ending drags a bit with unnecessary filler, but that’s fine.
As long as I enjoy the beginning, I’m good.
