“Let’s call off the fox hunt.”

‘Fox’ was a euphemism referring to Duke Vermonde.

Seeing Kai An suddenly retract his order, his subordinate looked at him with puzzled eyes.

“I must have been overly sensitive. It wouldn’t be right to spoil Duke Vermonde’s joyous occasion over something as trivial as my mood.”

Upon hearing Kai An’s words, the man immediately nodded in agreement.

“The place where Duke Vermonde is confined is located deep within the inner citadel—the most heavily guarded area.”

He had already gathered some information and promptly reported it.

“Valmont Castle is divided into an inner and outer section. Only retainers of House Vermonde and the authorized guard knights may enter the inner section. They say he’s imprisoned in the upper floors, which aren’t enclosed by the outer walls and are quite cold.”

In short, it meant no one could easily approach or contact him.

“I did wonder whether surveillance would even be meaningful.”

“Indeed. Very well. Follow my orders exactly as given.”

“Yes.”

After his subordinate withdrew, Kai An let out a sigh.

“Goodness, I really am overly suspicious by nature.”

As head of the house, his days were filled with constant activity.
